Questions Answered: Honey Badger Rumors, Chris Reed as the RG Solution, Everson Griffen FA

Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

The following questions are about current Minnesota Vikings topics, answered by VikingsTerritory. Today is the April 2nd edition, addressed in a from-the-hip fashion. If you have questions, please email them to [email protected].

Also, please note: These are opinion-based responses. Some answers will be incorrect from time to time. But we’ll try to keep that to a minimum.

Q: On Dustin’s show with Bryant McKinnie, one of the guests mentioned Tyrann Mathieu to the Vikings. Is that a real possibility?

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

A: Nope. It is unlikely.

The team should have interest in pairing Mathieu with Harrison Smith — because that would be fabulous — but the Honey Badger is too rich for the Vikings.

Mathieu will cost a team about $17 million per year, and Minnesota emphatically doesn’t have that kind of cash. Not many contending teams do at the beginning of April.

Don’t bet on it for the Vikings.

Q: Should the new guy Chris Reed be considered a starter on the Vikings offensive line?

Indianapolis Colts guard Chris Reed (62) (right) warms up before the team’s game against the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday, Dec. 25, 2021, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. A: No, not yet.

Kevin O’Connell announced an upcoming RG battle this summer. That will be between Reed, Jesse Davis, Wyatt Davis, and Oli Udoh. Jesse Davis is the frontrunner.

On paper, though, Reed is the best guard in the group. Consider him a dark horse to become the Vikings 2022 right guard.

According to past Pro Football Focus grades, Reed deserves it over the Davises and Udoh.

Q: Where will Everson Griffen play this season?

Everson Griffen Ain't Done Yet
Everson Griffen

A: This could go 32 different ways, but we predict the New York Giants.

There’s a small chance he rejoins the Vikings as a situational pass rusher, but that was probably a Mike Zimmer and Andre Patterson deal.

Andre Patterson is the defensive line coach for the Giants, so let’s follow the football networking there.

We say Griffen to the Big Apple. Just a hunch.
