Q: If Adofo-Mensah wants Danielle Hunter back, like he said today at the combine, is it as simple as that? Hunter’s coming back?

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

A: No, it’s not as simple as that, but it’s a wonderful place to start.

Adofo-Mensah could’ve said something to the effect of, “You’ll have to talk to Danielle about that.”

GMs and coaches use that verbiage at times. However, this new general manager didn’t do that. Unless he’s posturing, he wants Hunter back on the Vikings — and why wouldn’t he?

The exact words were, “He’s somebody we want to work with going forward.” This is a precursor to working out an extension with Hunter. Expect him back in 2022.

Q: First, it was O’Connell embracing (twice) Kirk Cousins. Today, it sure sounded like the new GM wants him back, too. I’d rather start over at QB. Is Cousins probably coming back?

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

A: Among his words about Cousins: “Kirk is very accurate, consistent, detailed, and is an incredible person I can’t wait to work with.”

Adofo-Mensah is basically saying the same thing as Kevin O’Connell. They’re both excited to work with Cousins, even though every player is under evaluation for 2022.

Yes, it is more likely that not Cousins is the QB1 in September. Both of the team leaders think highly of him. Plus, at the end of the regular season, Cousins said he wanted to stay in Minnesota, and he affirmed that was a good starting point for negotiations.

You’ll probably have to wait at least a year if you want to see the Cousins-less Vikings.

Q: Are there quarterbacks, in particular, the Vikings will watch at the combine?

A: Adofo-Mensah said about this year’s draft class of QBs on Tuesday, “I’m not going to sit here and stamp this quarterback class. I think there’s a lot of talent there and we’ll see what happens.”

If a team is looking to land a franchise quarterback, this batch of passers is emphatically not a good pool to tap. Plus, the Vikings already have Kellen Mond, who might be considered a 1st-Round talent by this class’ standard.

Adofo-Mensah and O’Connell will talk to them all at the combine — because that’s how this process goes — but don’t expect the QB savior to be obtained in April. Unless all draft pundits are wrong.
