If Justin Jefferson Has Beef with Kirk Cousins, He Sure Has a Friendly Way of Showing It
Justin Jefferson and Kirk Cousins

From the moment Justin Jefferson began to ascend as a star in the NFL, the masses and media sought to portray a rift between the young wide receiver and his quarterback, Kirk Cousins.

It’s relentless.

In 2020, Cousins missed a throw, catching Jefferson on an on-the-field microphone saying, “Damn, Kirk. Throw the ball.” For some, that was a smoking gun illuminating an apparent rift between the men – as preposterous as that sounds.

And it didn’t stop there. The 2021 season was a forum for folks to strengthen the alleged division between Jefferson and Cousins, hoping to create a hostile narrative for the two. There was this gem:

One more for the road:

This is just a random assortment on the internet, not even close to broaching the full extent of the faux Jefferson-Cousins beef.

Conversely, when Jefferson is asked one-on-one about Cousins, he speaks the antithesis of lamenting his quarterback. Asked about his record-setting first two seasons in the NFL, Jefferson touts Cousins as a contributor.

On Thursday night, Jefferson and Cousins partook in a skills competition for the Pro Bowl – yes, Cousins made the Pro Bowl; pretty awful, huh? – pairing Jefferson with Cousins at times during the event. And again, it was all smiles from Jefferson on his relationship with Cousins.

Jefferson and Cousins embrace at the end of the clip, culminating a grave disdain among the men. That’s sarcasm, of course.

Whether Cousins is the QB1 for the Minnesota Vikings in September is undetermined. The team has a new general manager, head coach, and eventual coaching staff, so Cousins could be on the move if Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has a vision for the franchise of a young, affordable passer. Cousins is not young, nor is he affordable.

Yet, his exodus from the team wouldn’t be a Jefferson-infused concession. Every time the media fans flames of turmoil between the two, Jefferson’s vocal cords and actions dispel the falsehoods.

It’s not surprising, though. Cousins – for an unknown reason – is the incessant source of scrutiny. It just so happens that Justin Jefferson isn’t personally on board with it.
