Gotta Hear It: Vikings Quote of the Day — March 7, 2022

Each day, we select a quote about the Minnesota Vikings, uplifting the sentiment of the day or highlighting something notable.
The remark can come from a Vikings player, coach, writer, fan — or anybody, really. Selection of the quote is arbitrary. The excerpt may be insightful, humorous, groundbreaking, outlandish, or foolish. If you have a quote of the day (your own or from someone else), please send it to [email protected].

This quote is from March 6th, 2022, by Chris Tomasson from the Pioneer Press, remarking on EDGE rusher Myjai Sanders, a rookie defender in the 2022 draft class.
Cincinnati Bearcats edge rusher Myjai Sanders named the #Vikings, Lions and Commanders as teams that stood out to him during combine interviews. “I had a formal (interview) with the Vikings and I really liked them.”

And here’s the official tweet:
This is significant because if the Vikings truly enjoy Sanders as an EDGE they identify to pair with Danielle Hunter in 2022, the team can likely wait until Round 2 to acquire his services.
Right now, before free agency, Minnesota needs an EDGE rusher, 2-3 cornerbacks, and some linebackers to make the defense go in 2022. Somehow, Mike Zimmer and Rick Spielman left the Vikings defense in unappetizing shape. In theory, if Sanders tickles their fancy, Minnesota could spend its 12th overall pick on a cornerback — like Ahmad Gardner or Derek Stingley Jr. — while plotting the Sanders addition for the 2nd Round.
Otherwise, if EDGE rusher is on the menu, Minnesota will explore a player like David Ojabo, who figures to be there for the taking at #12.
Waiting until Round 2 or 3 for an EDGE rusher is interesting as it broadens the possibilities for Minnesota with its 1st Rounder. The team could even draft a high-flying wide receiver like Chris Olave to plan from life after Adam Thielen at #12.
This draft class is loaded with EDGE rushers, and Pro Football Focus considers Sanders the 14th-best.
