Each day, we select a quote about the Minnesota Vikings, uplifting the sentiment of the day or highlighting something notable.

The remark can come from a Vikings player, coach, writer, fan — or anybody, really. Selection of the quote is arbitrary. The excerpt may be insightful, humorous, groundbreaking, outlandish, or foolish. If you have a quote of the day (your own or from someone else), please send it to [email protected].

This quote is from March 2, 2022, tweeted by our very own Sean Borman.

“The Vikings can save $19.5M in cap space by converting the roster bonuses of Danielle Hunter & Harrison Smith into signing bonuses.”

And here’s the official tweet:

Borman’s quote is noteworthy because it illustrates how seamlessly the Vikings can begin to fix their daunted cap situation. For now, the Vikings rank 29th in cap space, not an ideal place for the beginning of free agency.

Yet, this is nothing new. Vikings management pays players handsomely who have been with the organization for a long time, particularly the big-time play makers. As a result, the salary cap looks sketchy at the start of the offseason.

But brick by brick, the general manager — along with Rob Brzezinski — increases the cap space with roster moves. In fact, for much of the summer in 2021, Minnesota consistently held $14 million in cap maneuverability. No matter who they signed or who they released, the $14 million was available for funds throughout the summer. And that was after the budget felt nasty in early March.

Even though it may first involve heartwrenching roster cuts, the Vikings will soon have cap space, so there is no need to panic.

This happens to teams who seek to contend for the playoffs each season.
