Former Vikings 1st-Rounder Joins Seahawks Active Roster

With Seattle’s 2022 season teetering on a 7-7 record, a former Minnesota Vikings 1st-Rounder has joined the Seahawks active roster as a depth option.
That’s Laquon Treadwell, a member of the Vikings 2016 draft class. The wide receiver was “called up” on Tuesday, according to The News Tribune’s Gregg Bell. Bell tweeted, “Laquon Treadwell confirms online Seahawks are signing him to the active roster off their practice squad.”
Treadwell, 27, has become quite the NFL journeyman as Seattle represents his sixth stop after getting released by the Arizona Cardinals in October. To date, here’s a look at his resume:

Seattle onboarded Treadwell right before the NFL’s trade deadline on November 1st, and the Ole Miss alumnus has lived on the practice squad since. But with Seattle pass-catchers Tyler Lockett and Dee Eskridge injured, Pete Carroll’s offense has a need, and Treadwell will get a turn at becoming the solution.

Since leaving the Vikings after the 2019 season, Treadwell resembles an NFL whack-a-mole, popping up from time to time and sniffing practice squads and even some active rosters, like the Seahawks move.
The Vikings drafted Treadwell in 2016 with the 23rd overall pick but did not receive a worthwhile return on investment. Minnesota repeatedly tried to acclimate Treadwell to the passing game, but he just didn’t pan out. Outwardly, he was a phenomenal teammate and an “intangibles guy” while failing to stuff statsheets with receptions and yards. Such is life.
In that draft, Minnesota opted for Treadwell in Round 1 at a spot where it could’ve landed Xavien Howard, Derrick Henry, Michael Thomas, or Kenny Clark. But that type of revisionist history can be cited for nearly any pick in any draft. The Mike Zimmer-led Vikings vehemently clung to Treadwell, hoping he’d bust out to relevance. He played in 53 Vikings games in four years, tabulating just 701 receiving yards and two touchdowns. It was a rare 1st-Round miss for the Vikings at wide receiver, a franchise known for Mosses, Harvins, and Jeffersons.
Treadwell recorded a “career year” in 2021 with the Jaguars, though, accruing 33 catches for 434 yards on a flawed Jacksonville team. All told in his career, he’s produced 104 receptions for 1,184 yards and 5 touchdowns — in 70 games. Treadwell averages 16.9 receiving yards per game.
Former Vikings Sean Mannion and Wayne Gallman are also on Seattle’s practice squad.
Depending on end-of-season seeding, the Vikings could host the Seahawks in the postseason. But that will require a complete about-face by Seattle, a team that has lost four of its last five games — with a road date at the Kansas City Chiefs on tap this weekend. Not ideal.
Otherwise, Minnesota will travel to Lumen Field in 2024 for a regular season game.
The Vikings host the Giants this Saturday at U.S. Bank Stadium and are 3.5-point favorites.
