Watson may end up in the NFC North… or not [Updated]

Note: Looks like the Texans are holding pat, for now…

That having been said, of course this is their (initial) position. Watson is 1B to Patrick Mahomes’ 1A. But they’re also going to get a lot of huge offers and it will all come down to Watson.

Worth noting, though.

Original Article:

DeShaun Watson, the quarterback for the Houston Texans (for now), is creating a feeding frenzy unlike anything seen since the Minnesota Vikings handed another Texas team a dynasty for one Herschel Walker. Many sites, including our own, have kicked the tires on bringing Watson to Minnesota. However, it looks like Watson has a good chance to land with another NFC North team.

The Chicago Bears.

The Bears, like the Vikings, have tried and failed to draft and develop a franchise quarterback for decades and could very well manage the amount of draft capital needed to land the biggest trade in league history.

We’ve covered this here:

While I don’t think it’s realistic or sane to mortgage the next decade on a position that isn’t lacking (finally) for the Vikings, I also hope that the Bears don’t end up with Watson as they’d instantly become the favorites for the NFC North championship for the next seven-to-ten years.

Don’t get me wrong, Watson is better than current Vikings gun-slinger Kirk Cousins, but would the Vikings be better off trading three-to-five first-round picks for the upgrade when they could use those picks to shore up the offensive line and create the best offense in the NFL?

I certainly think so.

Let’s hope the Bears also feel like they’d be better off with those picks. Because, ouch. But the cost for Watson’s services should reinforce how lucky the Vikings are to have Cousins. So, let’s give the guy some credit and stop wasting digital ink on a story that just reinforces how little this fan-base respects something they’ve wanted so desperately that people still rock Matt Cassel jerseys.
