The USA Today will lead you to believe that FedEx Field in the nation’s capital, Nissan Stadium in Nashville, and Paul Brown Stadium in Cleveland are the NFL’s worst home venues. Truth be told, this synopsis probably isn’t wildly incorrect.

TouchdownWire of USA Today ranked all NFL stadiums as ‘home venues,’ and the Minnesota Vikings house fared well. The top five included:

5. AT&T Stadium (Dallas Cowboys)
4. Lumen Field (Seattle Seahawks)
3. Lambeau Field (Green Bay Packers)
2. State Farm Field (Arizona Cardinals)

And then at number one? U.S. Bank Stadium – home of the Vikings.

In an article that ranked all 30 stadiums leaguewide, Mark Lane from TouchdownWire explains his top U.S. Bank Stadium standing:

The Minnesota Vikings managed to get a venue that mimics having a retractable roof without actually opening it up and exposing the fans and players to the inhospitable Minneapolis weather. The stadium also provides iconic scenes of downtown. The exterior is a bit asymmetrical, but it is nevertheless one of the more visually appealing venues in all of sports.

The Vikings inhabited the Metrodome from 1982 to 2013, christening U.S. Bank Stadium as home in 2016. The facility cost just over $1 billion to erect and has since hosted a Super Bowl, the NCAA Final Four, and various concerts in addition to Vikings football.

The venue is typically a source of Vikings-related supremacy. But that was tossed into the toilet during 2020 as Minnesota only won three out of eight games at home during the pandemic season. In the first four seasons of its existence, U.S. Bank Stadium hosted a Vikings win-loss record of 24-9 – or second-best in the NFL from 2016 to 2019, trailing only the New England Patriots. Then 2020 happened, and the Vikings now rank ninth on the home-record-since-2016 list. That’s quite the nosedive for a five-loss season at home.

The venue will reopen to spectators in 2021 for Vikings football. To date, the last concert that transpired at ‘The Bank’ was a Garth Brooks concert in May of 2019.

The Rolling Stones, Kenny Chesney, Rammstein, George Strait, Motely Crue, and Def Leppard are all reportedly on the docket when the building reopens, although that itinerary spans a couple of years.

When the Seahawks arrive in Minneapolis on September 26, it will be the first regular season Vikings game at U.S. Bank Stadium in 637 days.
