People Really Want to Conjure Friction between Justin Jefferson and Kirk Cousins
No explanation exists for it. The reasoning is unknown.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson broke the NFL’s rookie record for receiving yards in 2020 on throws from Kirk Cousins. The tandem must click, right?
Not according to a cult-like sect of folks who desperately want to present friction between the two men. Last season, Cousins missed Jefferson on a throw at U.S. Bank Stadium — you know, like a mundane incompletion — and the LSU alumnus was heard yelling his in-game frustration. From that moment on, a narrative exists that Jefferson must not like Cousins.
The same folks still insist that Stefon Diggs wanted to get away from the Vikings because of Cousins, even though Diggs thanked and praised Cousins after his departure to Buffalo.

“Jefferson is sick of Cousins” is just the latest installment in anti-Cousins fervor circulating the internet. Guys and gals erroneously label Cousins a dink-and-dunk, stat-padding bum. Even when the silliness is debunked, new stuff like the false Jefferson hubbub arises.
Cousins missed Jefferson a few times on passes in Week 12 at San Francisco, so that meant the two men are at each others’ throats. These are examples:
“The Big Lead” was front and center, too:
This verified Twitter account couldn’t resist:
Dieter has an opinion:
“The Big Lead” even wrote a full story about it.
Ross felt Jefferson was disgusted:
So, the content on the alleged rift is just relentless. And just like Jefferson did in 2020 about the bizarre idea he dislikes Cousins, the wide receiver stopped the nonsense in its tracks after the 49ers game stating:
“I don’t worry about too much of the outside noise. These guys in this room know what’s going on in the huddle and the plays being called. It’s really all the connection with me and Kirk. At the end of the day, as long as we’re on the same page, then we’re all good.“
Jefferson and Cousins can be reasonably criticized for employment on a Vikings team that is 5-6 through 11 games — when the roster has enough talent to be 8-3 or so. The Vikings have competed in 10 games decided by eight points or fewer in 2021, tallying a win-loss record of 4-6 in those contests. In Week 13, the Vikings travel to Detroit to take on a winless Lions team. The best the Lions could do thus far in 2021 is a tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
On the fake squabble between Jefferson and Cousins, tweeting and authoring false pieces of media to suggest there is beef between the two men is lazy and dishonest.
Perhaps Jefferson merely needs more attention in the Vikings passing game? He only ranks ninth in the NFL in targets, for God’s sake.
