Florio: Potential new Vikings OC could be the end of Zimmer

So it’s good news?

Closet Vikings fan and national talking head of Pro Football Talk fame recently opined on the soon-to-be vacant Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator position.

What did he say?

“Coach Mike Zimmer will be under pressure to win next year, and a bad season could result in everyone getting fired. That’s a lot of extra pressure on a new offensive coordinator,”

I know that people, especially Vikings fans, don’t exactly… What’s the word? Oh yeah, respect Florio. But a broken clock… and junk.

He’s not wrong, is my point.

If you hadn’t noticed, I’ve been making the case for firing Zimmer all week. I can’t imagine what offensive coordinator would want to come here OUTSIDE of the pressure Florio mentions.

Which is really amazing because if you look at the Vikings’ offensive roster? This should be the most attractive gig in the league. But, no one wants to become the next John DeFilippo, and word travels fast betwixt people in the league.

The Vikings offense emulated the Packers’ league leading offense in every way except where it counts most (points/wins), and that’s despite the limitations put in place by Zimmer.

So, I really do believe that Zimmer is a season away from hitting the bricks. He’s too stubborn, apparently aggressively so, to compete in today’s NFL and if not for that 15-pick Draft and the injuries on defense in 2020?

He’d be Brad Childress 2.0.

The new offensive coordinator (which I’d bet dollars to donuts is an internal hire) won’t change that, because Zimmer won’t let him.
