Purple PTSD’s Roster Projection: Where I Disagree With Dustin and Wesley

Earlier, Dustin and Wes published their projection for the 53-man Vikings roster. For the most part, I think they nailed it. I do have some disagreements, though. Instead of writing out my own full list, I’ll merely highlight the discrepancies. For a refresher, hop over to their projection on either Purple PTSD or Vikings Territory.

QB: Dust and Wes – very rightly – suggest that Kirk and Kellen will be on this team. Where I disagree is that Browning will be cut. We all know how dire things can get with one positive test, so I expect the Vikes to keep their third-year UDFA since he’s fully vaccinated.

RB: My one quibble is with A.J. Rose making the team. I find it hard to believe they’ll keep him even after all of the positives he showed during the preseason. There’s just too much talent at that position. I expect them to try to keep him on the practice squad.

FB: I actually think they’ll keep both C.J. Ham and Jake Bargas. Why keep two FBs when a lot of teams don’t even use one? Simple. Irv Smith Jr. is out for a while; Bargas is a capable pass catcher. He was a safe option throughout the preseason for our young QBs. Kirk Cousins specifically praised him in a recent press conference. If he can line up at TE, offer some blocking, and maybe even catch a pass or two, Zim may look to keep him.

WR: They believe Dede will stick around as the WR6. I’ve already written about how I don’t think it makes a lot of sense to keep him, so my roster projection has him cut. The Vikes start with 5 receivers.

TE: This is a tough one. I’m subtracting Brandon Dillon from their projection to make the numbers work. Admittedly, I don’t know what our team is going to do here. Life without Irv will be tough.

OL: I think they nailed this one. As much as fans will hate it, Dakota Dozier is probably on this team.

DL: I find it hard to come up with too many disagreements with the group they list. The only caution I’ll add is that the team may be inclined to keep Jalyn Holmes. To make room, they may need to cut a LB (my guess would be Ryan Connelly).

LB: I think Blake Lynch finds his way onto this team. He had some nice snaps throughout the preseason. Put me down for Lynch over Connelly. I cut an extra player from offense, so perhaps I’ll use that extra spot on Lynch.

DB: I also think they’ll keep 6 CBs. Where I would cautiously disagree is with their decision to cut Metellus. He’s a great player on special teams. Expect the Vikings to find room for him, even if it means moving Bynum to the practice squad.
