Vikings working on a trade for OBJ? Report says… Yes?!?

By Joe Johnson

As if this off-season couldn’t get any stranger, there’s a report, of sorts, coming out of the local sports radio realm in New York City claiming that the Vikings are working on a trade with the Cleveland Browns for Odell Beckham Jr.

It’s hard not to dismiss this as it’d seem very strange to trade away Stefon Diggs for his diva behavior, only to bring in OBJ two weeks later. I made my feelings on this very clear a week or two ago, as I just can’t imagine OBJ and Zimmer getting along at the best of times, let alone during a rebuild.

However, if this were Madden and we were solely focused on output, replacing Diggs with OBJ would be a no-brainer. But that’s not how football works anymore, so it’d just be shocking for them to make this move (especially considering the cap implications).

Coming out of the Diggs trade with OBJ and a first round pick, would also seem like pretty crafty GM-ing, assuming Beckham Jr. isn’t a complete nightmare in 2020 and beyond, which is a big ask.

  • we dont have the cap space to make this work. Would need to include Ant Harris in this deal or Cut Reif outright.

  • He had an injury and his mouth has created problems with his last two teams so this could be a reboot to get his act on track for the future. It could work with monitoring and would give us an elite receiving group. All we would need is one strong 3rd thru 5th round W/O added for depth and we are set for the long haul. In the meantime build our front lines and add a top notch corner.

  • I'm not a obj fan but it would be an aggressive move. I would hope that the vikings had done all their homework on him & had agreeements in place on behavior & salary beforehand, with that being done if they draft well & maybe add 2 more veterans the tesm is a SB contender at that point. Obj, a veteran cb & a veteran ol & the team is in good shape to compete.
