Vikings Riley Reiff Reportedly Expects to be Cut

In a move that is shocking to nobody after the news Sunday of the Minnesota Vikings trading for Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, the Vikings have asked Riley Reiff to restructure his contract. Also unsurprisingly, Reiff seems to be unwillingly to do so and has reportedly told teammates he expects to be cut.

According to Overthecap.com, Reiff carries a $13.2 million cap hit for 2020. If he is cut, he saves the Vikings about $11 million.

This news means that the Vikings must have some faith in both rookie Ezra Cleveland and second year man Oli Udoh. Both these players, or sliding right tackle Brian O’Neill over to the left side, are the best options the Vikings have.

Reiff came to Minnesota in 2017 after spending his first five year with the Detroit Lions. In three seasons, Reiff has played 43 of a possible 48 games and was a captain for the Vikings offense. Although he has been mostly available and serviceable, he has been eaten up by some of the stronger defensive ends in the game.
