The Vikings are stuck between a rock and a hard place (the rock being their lack of free agency and the hard place being five decades of failure) this off-season, as at the start of this off-season they had 19 pending free agents and were over $12 million OVER the cap. Considering the fact that they failed to reach the promised land with essentially every player they wanted in 20i19, it’s hard to get enthusiastic about their prospects in 2020.

With reports that the team will be without both of their starting corners in 2020 in Trae Waynes and Xavier Rhodes, things were already looking pretty bleak for the Vikings secondary. Now there’s a new report stating that the Vikings are “bracing for life without” their breakout player of 2019, safety Anthony Harris.

A rumor developed at the combine last week which was reported on ESPN.com’s super deluxe awesome premium membership network. That rumor is that Anthony Harris is set to make “more than $10 million per year after” his breakout 2019 campaign. Because of that, the Vikings are “bracing for life” without him.

Yikes.

The silver lining here, if any, is that Harris joined the Vikings as an undrafted free agent after the 2015 NFL Draft. That shows that this team, under head coach Mike Zimmer, is capable of finding and developing talent in the late rounds and after the draft. However, it’s seeming more and more that the team might draft Harris’ replacement earlier in the 2020 draft, potentially signing wide receiver Stefon Diggs’ brother, Trevon.

Either way, it’s safe to assume that the 2020 Vikings will look a whole lot different than the iterations we’ve seen the last couple of seasons. Perhaps that change is what this team needs, but again, it’s hard to feel enthusiastic about their prospects. That is, unless new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak is able to put together an offense that is as elite on the field as the defense has been… On paper.
