The Vikings kicked tires on Eagles Safety before Deadline

The NFL trade deadline came and went today with nothing to report from the Minnesota Vikings, which was an indication that clearly… Actually, it’s hard to really know what to make of the Vikings’ lack of action Tuesday. It was thought after the purple traded recent trade acquisition Yannick Ngakoue way before the deadline that the move was the first in a fire sale on basically any worthwhile Vikings over a certain age or trade value.

That was before the team upset the Packers, which raised questions across Vikingsland. Those questions are, what sort of team are these 2020 Vikings? While it still seems farfetched, the playoffs are still a possibility for these Vikings as is a record to build on during the upcoming off-season.

So the question of whether a rebuild is synonymous with a complete tear down of any veteran with trade value seems to have been much ado about nothing, as apparently was any realistic chance that the Vikings would’ve traded any draft picks to bolster their 2020 roster.

Apparently the closest the Vikings got to making a move was in a potential deal was the exploration/preliminary discussions with the Philadelphia Eagles for a backup safety in Will Parks (who the team was linked to in free agency previously).

That move would’ve at most cost the Vikings a late round draft pick, which Vikings general manager Rick Spielman values like Smeagol and his precious, so clearly giving up a sixth or GASP seventh round pick for a depth guy who will be a free agent after the season was a bridge (or Mordor?) too far.

With that it looks like the Vikings are going full steam ahead with their current roster, which with their upcoming soft schedule, could end up being more competitive than we imagined after the debacle in Atlanta…cle.

Or, like after the Seahawks game, we could see the Vikings implode against a Lions team that Zimmer has struggled against even at full power.

Such is life as a 2020 Vikings fan.
