How have the Vikings Super Bowl changed odds post-Ngakoue
As someone who, by those around me, have been told I check our Google Analytics too often… I can say with the confidence of a 36-year-old man who rocks my facial hair, that interest in the 2020 Vikings skyrocketed when they traded for defensive end Yannick Ngakoue. It then entered the stratosphere when that trade didn’t also force the team to cut left tackle and unfair fan punching bag Riley Reiff.
So, I was a bit surprised at first when the Vikings’ Super Bowl odds remained unchanged for the last four or five days. But instead of writing about that, I waited, as I figured the excitement from the white north would translate into better odds for the Vikings just based on the amount of online bets for the then 25-1 and +2500 Vikings in Kroners, Euros or pounds of lutefisk.
Well, turns out my patience paid off as usual, as nothing has changed. I’ve scoured the internet, and according to sports betting in Colorado, one of the non-Minnesota states (for now, I hope, as again my dogs) that have legalized something most of us are waiting with bated breath for the brain-trust in St. Paul to figure out after their tenth comped trip to our neighbors to the South, the Vikings‘ odds to win Super Bowl LV have not changed.
Let’s take a gander.
That’s a bit surprising considering that the Vikings now have a top two (depending on who you ask) pass rushing duo on their formerly problematic defensive line (which, I’ll admit the persistent pessimist in me only makes me more sad that Michael Pierce (rightfully) opted out of 2020), and did so while at least not (further) decimating their questionable offensive line.
Perhaps the oddsmakers in Colorado/Vegas/New Jersey (also known as the worst road trip ever) are waiting to see if Kirk Cousins pulls through?
Point being. If those were the odds pre-Ngakoue, the Vikings faithful should definitely send a buck or two the way of the Vikings at least winning the division as their actual odds had to at least improve this week.
Just ask my dogs and the horse meat buffet this article should bring them!
Keep in mind that this is coming from the guy who pre-Ngakoue picked the Vikings to go 6-10 in our (part one) Record Prediction Round-Table. So, while I’m sure there’s some sort of legal liability from me advocating you send the money you don’t use in our merch store on a bet, I also have a mid-level membership on Legal Zoom, so… Do your worst?
Seriously though, it’s only a matter of time until those odds change. While I monitor these things mainly to see what those outside of the purple bubble (coincidentally my nickname in High School), it is at least worth noting that this gigantic trade didn’t sway oddsmakers positively.
I’d chalk it up to the perpetual invisibility of being in Vikingsland, as again, even I’m coming down with what I hope is purple fever (we’re not all Cousins after all).
