Cameron Dantzler has best game of young career
There have been times this season where rookie third-round pick Cameron Dantzler (aka “The Needle”) appeared to be a liability at the cornerback position. While it’s always too soon to call a player a bust during their rookie season, because of the binary nature of NFL “coverage” on social media, many attached that label to the Mississippi State product.
Then came his scary injury a month ago in which he landed awkwardly on his neck. With that, and all the other injuries at the position, the Vikings went shopping for cornerback help on other teams’ practice squads.
Suffice it to say, things were rough.
Enter the Jacksonville Jaguars, a team that was supposed to be the get right game for a Vikings team that lost to the Cowboys and were a missed field goal away from losing to the Panthers.
Instead, the game Sunday was a complete mess. Both the Vikings and Jags committed a ton of sloppy turnovers, penalties and special teams gaffes.
Outside of Justin Jefferson, though, there was another bright spot for the Vikings sunday. The needle. I’ll let our managing editor Sean Borman explain.
Dantzler also forced AND recovered a fumble, which should be (along with his first career interception) a cornerback triple-double. Cause there’s three and they’re doubly bad for the opposing team.
Hopefully the Vikings can clean up the aforementioned mistakes, as despite the fact that they needed an overtime period to best the previously 1-10 Jaguars, there’s a lot of potential here.
Regardless of what happens in 2020, the future looks bright for these Vikings who with another draft, or two, to fill-in holes and build depth, could be a contender for years to come. Dantzler appears to personify that potential, and since we here at PurpleTERRITORY Media have been a bit hard on him, it’s only fair that we give credit where credit is due.
