The Minnesota Vikings on Monday removed cornerback Mike Hughes from the physically unable to perform list. It’s the first step in Hughes returning to game action. Hughes tore his ACL and also suffered ligament damage to his knee in a game last September. Now, he’s cleared to return to practice.
“It feels good,” Hughes told the media. “I’m so ready to get back out there with my guys and compete. It’s been almost a year since I’ve been out there, so I’m just anxious to get back. I’m excited.”
Hughes will rejoin a cornerback group which includes Xavier Rhodes,Trae Waynes and Mackensie Alexander.
While Hughes is officially cleared to return to practice, he did not participate in today’s session. There is currently no timetable for his return. He may not be ready for Week 1 against Atlanta, but his removal from the PUP list bodes well for an early-season return.
In six games as a rookie, Hughes recorded 22 tackles with an interception, one forced fumble and one touchdown.
