Sources have told NFL insider Adam Schefter that Latavius Murray will be signing a four-year deal with the New Orleans Saints. The 29-year-old running back will not be returning to Minneapolis.

Murray signed with Minnesota in 2017 for a three year, $15 million deal. He was intended to fill the gap left after Adrian Peterson left, but Murray ended up losing his starting position to the Vikings’ first 2017 draft pick, Dalvin Cook. The rookie edged out Murray, then a 3-year veteran, during training camp and the preseason and started four games before an ACL tear ended Cook’s season.

Cook came back (mostly) healthy in 2018, so Murray again found himself in the backup role. Following the 2017 season, Murray’s contract was restructured and the third year was voided, making him a free agent this offseason.

Over his two seasons, Murray played all 32 regular season games (17 starts) for 356 carries, 1420 rushing yards, and 14 touchdowns. Murray featured an average 4.0 yards/attempt and fumbled the ball only once.

The former Pro-Bowler will now find a new home at the Superdome, and Minnesota will need to find a new ball carrier in free agency or the 2019 NFL Draft.
