8/16: Chad Beebe. The “Effin’ A” Q&A is a unique training camp article featured only on VT. Players are interviewed after practice and asked a couple quick questions that Vikings fans want to know. Their typical response to being tracked down is how the name of this article was born.
How’s training camp going for you so far?
“It’s awesome. I love it. I’ve said this to a few other people but this is my sanctuary out here. It’s where I feel at home. I’m just coming in here every single day trying to better myself.”
What are your thoughts on John DeFilippo’s offense?
“I love it. It’s got a West Coast twist and it’s just very fun to play in especially with me being a slot guy. I really enjoy the route tree and all the different kind of routes that we’re running. That’s what I love to do, so [laughs].”
Many folks think you’re a fringe player and that you could possibly make the 53-man roster or practice squad. Your thoughts?
“I just try to come out here every single day and better myself. All that stuff is behind closed doors and out of my hands. I wish it wasn’t but it is what it is.”
What does Chad Beebe bring to the wide receiver position?
“Passionate, grittiness, love for the game. Yeah, I think those are the top three things.”
How happy were you to land in Minnesota?
“I’m very happy. After the draft I wasn’t really expecting much, but I was just praying for an opportunity. The first people to call me was Indianapolis so I was excited for that. And then Minnesota called me the day after wanting me to come in that week. I was like ‘you know what, this is awesome.’ I couldn’t be happier. Then I came here, the facilities were top-notch, the coaches were just great, really smart, breaking down what they do and they were able to teach me what they know which has helped me tremendously. You know, obviously I would love to stay here. Worst comes to worst I know that I’ve done my best and I know that I can carry that maybe to another team or maybe just in life. But I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it here.”
Your quick thoughts on the state of Minnesota.
“Well, from what I hear, the winters are pretty bad. But what I know, with being here this summer, it’s fantastic. I love the Eagan area. I think where the facilities are here is a perfect spot. It’s not too close to the cities but it’s close enough to where you can go and still enjoy the city. I love it here.”
Beebe was born in New York but grew up in Aurora, Illinois (yes, the same Aurora from Wayne’s World). He was a ball boy before playing for his father, Don Beebe, a former Buffalo Bills wide receiver that later coached high school football at Aurora Christian. Chad went on to play college ball at Northern Illinois.
The 24 year-old made an impact during his Vikings debut, catching a 9-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kyle Sloter Saturday night. He finished the game in Denver with three catches for 22 yards and one touchdown. Beebe may be short in stature but he makes up for it with precise route-running abilities, elite body control and soft hands. He was able to consistently create separation during the joint practice with Jaguars Wednesday afternoon.

I have high hope for this young man ~ Hopefully he at least makes the PS if he keeps playing well ~ It sounds like he had a good day vs the Jags ~
I really liked what I saw out of him in camp. Zimmer said he wants WR that can play ST and Beebe can be a punt returner for sure (if need be), and might able to be a gunner as well.
Either way it was the best interview I had in camp by far. Great kid.
He seems to be very humble and says he follows Diggs and Thielen around picking their brains ~That's two things I think the kid has going for him ~ I got my eye on him as he is my dark horse going back to the day they signed him ~ My hope was\is he can bring the same kind of things to the table that his father did ~ Plus with all the contracts the Vikings have been giving out his low cap hit would be a welcome blessing to Rob Brzezinski if somehow worked out ~
All good points. I heard his father was gritty as well (he was before my time), but was more of an outside WR whereas Chad is a slot receiver.
I loved watching his dad play ~ Chad has more speed than I thought ~ I really need to watch him a little closer
Don is known as one of the fastest players in the history of the NFL. He was famously timed at a 4.21 40-yard dash by the New York Jets during the lead up to the draft (he was a third-round pick). The ex-receiver is going on 20 years as a speed trainer with his company House of Speed.
Chad is quicker than fast. He runs a 4.47 – about average for an NFL receiver and a cheetah compared to any of us.

Sean if you haven't seen this it what I can only wish Chad would bring to the Vikings ~ Yeah I know it's wishful thanking ~ But I keep wishing ~ LOL
