Report: LB Mychal Kendricks Visits Vikings

The older brother of Minnesota Vikings linebacker Eric Kendricks visited the team Tuesday.

According to Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports, free agent linebacker Mychal Kendricks plans to visit the Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders and Cleveland Browns this week. Schulz’s source also noted Kendricks is expected to make a decision on where he will sign this week.

Kendricks, 27, is the elder brother of Vikings’ starting linebacker Eric Kendricks, who recently signed a five-year extension with the club.

Mychal has spent his entire six-year NFL career as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. Originally drafted in the second round of the 2012 draft, he was released by the team last week after refusing to take a pay cut. He had two years left on his contract and was scheduled to count $7.6 million against the Eagles’ salary cap this season.

In 74 career starts, Kendricks has 14 sacks, six forced fumbles and three interceptions.

Now, the outside linebacker could join forces with his younger brother in what would become a deep linebacker group for Minnesota. Here’s a quick look at the current Vikings LB depth chart:

  1. This is a good visit for both IMHO ~ As for what it might mean to Barr I don’t have a clue ~ Unless they have a 3~4 team on the line who is wanting to trade for Barr ~ ??? Barr works fine in the Vikings defense but I don’t see many 3~4 LBers who can fit into a 4~3 defense outside of the Vikings ~ Zimmer has found a way to make it work though ~ Barr might be the one to walk when it come to signing 2 of the top 3 Vikings FA ~ Diggs and Hunter are in front of Barr IMHO ~

As always I could be wrong ~

  2. I think the only way M. Kendricks is actually signed by us is if Barr is traded, which I do NOT expect to happen. The only other scenario I can even imagine him joining us is if he doesn’t get a single offer for a starting job and he agrees to join us for one year, even if only as a benchwarmer LB3 or LB4. I don’t see his market being that weak – he’s not a safety, for Heaven’s sake! – so I really don’t see that happening.
