Emmanuel Lamur Signs With Oakland Raiders

By Sean Borman

According to multiple sources, former Minnesota Vikings linebacker Emmanuel Lamur has agreed to terms with the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders announced the signing Wednesday evening.

Lamur joined the NFL in 2012 as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas State. He spent his first two seasons under Mike Zimmer when he was the defensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals. Lamur played a total of three years in Cincinnati, missing the entire 2013 season due to a shoulder injury.

He then reunited with Zimmer in 2016 when he signed with the Vikings as a free agent. In two seasons Lamur registered 30 combined tackles with a pass defended and a fumble recovery. Although he did not start once, he appeared in 32 straight games.

The 28 year-old was predominately a backup linebacker and special teams leader in Minnesota. He’ll presumably have a similar role as a Raider under head coach Jon Gruden.

Following the departure of Lamur, the Vikings have linebackers Anthony BarrEric KendricksBen GedeonEric Wilson, and Kentrell Brothers on the roster.

  • Seems many guys are moving on from the Vikings. I hope all their replacemnts are upgrades. More importantly, It will be interesting to see if the team is more succesful than last year.

    • Lamur didn't play a crucial role and he also had a cap number of $2.75 million the last two seasons. Chances are the Vikings can find a capable replacement for a lot less money

  • I assume Lamur is saying it feels like home because he knows two of the coaches from his time with the Bengals.

    • I think you're right. I know this is tough loss for you but he was getting paid a lot for little playing time and production

  • I wish him well ~ And thank you for being a fine person while you were a Vikings ~ When he was signed I thought he might be a sleeper signing because of his ties to Zimmer ~ Just based off what i have read it seems he played less for the Vikings than he did for the Bengals ~

    • Yeah he didn't play much but sure seemed like a good guy, and nice to have for depth.

  • I have high hopes for Ben Gedeon and Eric Wilson just based off what I saw in their rookie preseason and their play on ST in the regular season ~ I believe they could start and fill in if needed for a couple of game in year two ~ I'm not so high on Brothers but I don't really know enough to question what Zimmer and his staff see in him ~ LOL

Lamur Just didn't seem to fit what HC Zimmer must have seen in him as his DC when he was signed ~ Not a bad player for a backup but not at what he was making ~ I look for another LB to be added in the first 5 round ~ But what I'm look for and what Spielman and Zimmer are looking for will most likely be two totally different things ~

    • Haha I hear ya. I always want that over-sized, Anthony Barr-like athletic monster at every defensive position.

I'm a big believer in this LB group. Gedeon and Wilson impressed, as you said, and Brothers - I would classify as undersized but underrated.

Even so, I see the Vikings for sure targeting a linebacker in this draft.
