Sticking to the offensive side of the ball, the Vikings used their second pick in the fifth round (180) to select Miami guard Danny Isidora. The former Hurricane was the 133rd-ranked player on VT’s consensus board, making this a valuable pick at a position of need.
Isidora started every game at right guard for Miami the last three seasons and earned All-ACC honors from league coaches after his junior and senior years, per CBS Sports.
Dane Brugler noted teams who run zone and power schemes will find some use out of Isidora, making this a logical choice for Tony Sparano and the Vikings. Brugler specifically pointed to Isidora’s traits as an interior offensive lineman, which will translate well in the NFL at right guard.
In 2016, Isidora didn’t allow a pressure in 9 of his 13 games, per Pro Football Focus. He was also one of the most impressive prospects at the NFL Scouting Combine, clocking in at 5.03 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
Jim Cobern, who compiles metrics on almost every draftable player each year, compared Isidora to Mike Iupati; albeit, a poor man’s version of the Arizona Cardinals guard.
