Vikings Links of the Week: Countdown to the Draft

In less than 5 days, a new batch of rookies will find out where they will be landing when the 2016 NFL Draft takes place on Thursday night. What has always been a popular event among the league’s biggest fans, has now become must-see TV for even some the NFL’s most casual fans.

Of the Minnesota Vikings first round draft selections from the past three years, four out of the six are now starters for the team. Will Vikings general manager Rick Spielman be able to find another player from the first round to make an immediate impact in 2016?

Pro Football Focus is known for producing their unique articles and this piece is no different as it details specific prospects in which the Vikings should be able to choose from during each round of the draft.

The average mock draft has Minnesota selecting a wide receiver in the first round of this year’s draft, but the team still has plenty of other needs they can choose to address instead.

After missing an entire season, Vikings center John Sullivan is excited to get back on the field with his teammates.

The last wide receiver Minnesota selected in the first round was Cordarrelle Patterson in 2013. His performance since then seems to have the Vikings unlikely to pick up the option to extend his contract after the upcoming season.

In terms of draft value, the Washington Post decided to rank how each NFL team has drafted since 1996. Where did Minnesota end up on the list?

Okay, I have to leave a comment about that mock draft from the Skol Brew podcast. I give you guys all the credit in the world for the work that you do on these sites and actually getting out there and putting media in world for people to consume. That said, the choice to take the Cardinals' trade was too embarrassing for me to watch the rest of the video. The Cardinals offered you to drop over a full round from 2.23 to 3.29 and in exchange, we would get 4.30, 5.28, and 6.30. The Packers offered you to drop 3 spots from 2.23 to 2.26 and in exchange, we would get 4.27. We could have traded down again, still been above 3.29 and gotten more 5.28 and 6.30. Ridiculous. Did you think the Packers were offering their 3rd round pick? Just bizarre...
