Danielle’s Game Day Dish: Week 7

By Adam Patrick

Written by Adam’s wife, Danielle

Time to get back to the grind for the Vikings!

The team had last week off which means they should be completely rested and ready to move forward with this winning season.

This week the Vikings are playing the Eagles.  Previously the Eagles were one of the undefeated teams in competition with the Vikings. Since then, the Eagles have lost two games and I think everyone can agree with me that there is no way they will be able to take down the Vikings! This winning streak must continue.

Even though we are playing some fierce competition this week, I decided to make Philly Cheese Steaks.  These are sandwiches that everyone loves and something that is perfect for tailgating before the game or even for eating during the game at home. It is always impressive when you can serve one of the most filling sandwiches to all your family and friends, which in return keeps hangry feelings and drunken behavior at bay.

The best part of Philly cheese steaks is how easy they are. I literally tossed everything in the crock pot and walked away. Once the beef, peppers, and onions were done it was only an additional 5 minutes to fill the sub rolls, place some slices of cheese on top and toast the rolls while melting the cheese.

Let me know what you think in the comments below! Even though some people may not like peppers and onions, everyone can agree that they give some great flavor to all foods, including beef and honestly, does anything go wrong when paired with cheese? Don’t forget to follow my better half Adam on Twitter (@Str8_Cash_Homey) for your Vikings news and previews of game day dishes to come.

XOXO

 Philly Cheese Steak Sandwiches

Ingredients:

(Makes 4-6 cheese steaks)

  • 2 lbs of your favorite thin cut steak;
  • 2 bell peppers sliced thinly;
  • 1 onion sliced thinly;
  • 1 envelope Italian salad dressing mix;
  • 2 cups beef broth;
  • 1 teaspoon pepper;
  • 1 teaspoon salt;
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder;
  • 4-6 sub rolls;
  • 8-12 slices of the cheese of your choice
Directions:
  • Put your crock pot liner in the crock pot or use a non-stick spray to coat the crock pot;
  • Put everything but the rolls and cheese in your crock pot and mix around;
  • Cook for 4-6 hours on low, 2-4 hours on high
    • Cooking times may vary depending on how large your crock pot is. I have a very large crock pot and these are the times that worked for me of yours is smaller you may need to cook for less time;
  • Once everything is cooked place it in the rolls;

  • Top the filled rolls with your favorite cheese;
    • I used 2 slices of mozzarella on each cheese steak. Provolone is also a great cheese for cheese steaks;

  • Turn your broiler on low and place the cheese steaks in it for about 2-3 minutes in order to melt the cheese and toast the rolls;

  • Serve and enjoy!
