Calling All Artists: Vikings Need Your Skills

By Adam Warwas

Here at VT we know that we attract a very diverse group of readers.  After all, people from all walks of life can become Vikings fans willing to endure all that comes with it.  Last week, our own Lindsey Young kicked off her series about this very topic by profiling a Dreamworks animator who has made his fandom a family affair.

Now, if you bleed purple and you happen to have an artistic side, then you might be able to convert your combined passions into something that can live on inside the new stadium.

The Vikings have announced that they are seeking proposals from Minnesota-based artists to help bring the new stadium to life through their work.

“One of the primary goals throughout stadium construction and operation is to utilize Minnesota companies and Minnesota people, and this partnership with Sports and the Arts fits that theme,” said Vikings Owner/President Mark Wilf. “This is an opportunity for Minnesotans and Vikings fans to further impact the design of this stadium with artwork that recognizes the history of the Vikings and celebrates the many attributes of this state and region. When fans see this art throughout the building, it will further emphasize that this stadium is for their benefit and enjoyment.”

The Vikings are keeping an open mind to all artistic ideas.  Paintings, sketches, drawings, objects, photography, sculptures, murals, and digital creations will all be considered.  They will begin accepting submissions on February 1st and the closing date will be March 31st.

If you are interested then I encourage you to CLICK HERE for more information.  If you get commissioned, then please do come back and share your story with us!  I just happen to know an up and coming reporter (Matt Blair’s words, not mine) that would like to interview you.

Adam Warwas

Adam Warwas (Founder) has been writing about the Vikings for a total of eight years. Five of those years have been here at Vikings Territory where he continues to surround himself with enough talented individuals that people keep coming back. As proud as he is of what Vikings Territory has become, his real treasures are in his home... a beautiful wife and three amazing children (and a dog named Percy).

My preferred media is sculpture. I'll be submitting my (already built) solid bronze statue of Jeff Meta Universal Peace Dugan. Trouble is the cost of shipping. I melted down about a million used garden hose fittings to make this larger that life work of art, so this thing weighs a ton, literally. Are any of you readers here at VT prepared to contribute towards the shipping cost? I realize times are tough, so donations should not exceed one cent per contributor. Canadian money is fine. Adam has agreed to collect and do a full accounting for donations, so please send your cents to Adam.

Please note. Donations are not tax deductable.

    • I can't wait to see it Ole, my penny is on the way!
If we could get it to the mainland, I could load it up on my trailer...drive it right up to the stadium gates.

      • Thanks for the kind offer C.Carter. However, this masterpiece should be shared with all of humanity. Would you be willing to tour the United States with the Jeff Dugan statue? It's ok to skip Wisconsin.

    • ole, i'd be willing to help. certainly everyone can contribute one cent, and it's great that adam is collecting all the cents for this very admirable project. nobody flattens a ref like Jeff Meta Universal Peace Dugan! i don't have any canadian money, though, just regular american common money. the only problem is, i've always been told i don't have any common cents, but i'll keep looking

  • C.Carter and CalVkg, Your two cents are much appreciated. With my contribution, we are up to three cents at this point. With any luck, we will raise enough money to buy a hearty piece of styrofoam to float the Jeff Meta Universal Piece work of art to the Mainland. CalVkg, would you be willing to search the Pacific Ocean every day, anticipating the arrival of the Bronze Adonis?

And special thanks to Adam. Not only did offer to keep track of all of the contributors, he also offered to keep track on the non-contributors (he called it his "personal enemies list"). I wouldn't go that far Adam. To simplify this process, it may be best to refer to them as non cents.

Breaking news. By special request of Mudhen Matt, we are now accepting Mexican money.

    • yes, i'll be more than happy to watch for him, and i will enlist the help of our local surfer, the cardiff kook, who is at the beach every day

  • Great news CalVkg. Mahalo for soliciting another donor to this worthy endeavor. On behalf of all posters here at VT, we welcome the locally renowned Cardiff Kook who will be ensuring the safe arrival of the Jeff Meta Universal Piece Bronze Adonis statue via the Pacific Express. Dock strikers be damned, this is fabulous news.

Also, Adam we need a ruling on the conversion of Peso's to cents. It seems Mudhen Matt did not get robbed on his latest pharmaceutical excursion to the seedy suburbs of Toledo. I think he is being overly generous. 120 Pesos must be worth more than one cent. Or maybe he wants to get rid of the evidence.
Either way, we look forward to your impartial decision.
