Free agency is right around the corner and we Vikings fans are waiting patiently to see what moves Rick Spielman has up his sleeve.

The moves the Vikings make aren’t the only ones that will impact our 2015 season, however, and that is why we pay close attention to what our enemies in the NFC North are up to:

CHICAGO BEARS

The Bears got a jump start on free agency by re-signing veteran tight end Zach Miller on Friday.

Miller originally joined the Bears in December of 2013. He entered the league with the Jaguars in 2009 and has been productive when he has been on the field, but is often injured. Last season, he caught six passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns in the team’s preseason opener, but in Week Two of the preseason he suffered a season-ending Lisfranc injury. He also spent all of 2012 on injured reserve in Jacksonville.

According to ESPN, Miller has played a total 33 games with five starts. In those games he has notched 45 catches for 470 yards and four touchdowns.

GREEN BAY PACKERS

Defensive tackle B.J. Raji wouldn’t be the biggest name at his position to potentially hit the open market in March, but he would certainly draw plenty of attention if he did.

It sounds as if the Packers don’t intend to let that happen.

Reports out of Wisconsin indicate that the Packers are planning to retain Raji in the coming days and that he will remain a Packer.

Raji has been underwhelming over the last few seasons and last year he played on a modest one-year deal worth $4 million. Raji ended up tearing a bicep and sitting the season out, but he was praised for sticking around and advising the younger defensive players throughout the season.

The Packers expressed interest in retaining former Vikings Letroy Guion, but he was recently arrested for multiple felonies, so the Packers might be wise to make sure Raji sticks around as at least one constant in the middle of their defensive line.

DETROIT LIONS

This space has been reserved mostly for Ndamukong Suh speculation over the last few weeks, but since the Vikings are potentially in the market for a long snapper I wanted to let you know that a good one is no longer available.

The Nolan Ryan of long snappers” is Don Muhlbach, a career Lion, has signed a one year agreement that keeps him in Detroit for his 12th season.

Mulbach has played 164 games in the NFL and is known for his consistency and lack of mistakes. He even managed to make the Pro Bowl in 2012.
