LINKS OF THE WEEK: Torment & Hope

By Adam Warwas

The mourning period for last week’s embarrassing loss is already over for the Vikings organization, but it will continue for us fans for a couple more days.

Still, the torment is slowly turning towards hope as Sunday’s home opener against the Detroit Lions draws closer.

Nothing can cure a fan base’s disgust for a road loss quite like the good thumping of a division opponent and that is exactly what the Vikings are hoping to provide. Now it is time to take a look around the web and see what everyone is saying about last week’s loss, this week’s matchup, and maybe a couple of other things in between.

  • The very knowledgeable Eric Thompson is hoping the Vikings don’t fool him twice.
  • Here is a scary question: What if Teddy Bridgewater isn’t that good?
  • Obviously, Adrian Peterson was not the Adrian Peterson we’ve known in the past or expected to see on Sunday.
  • A look at Week One anomalies from the recent past in the NFL that could be used to suggest the Vikings can turn things around.
  • A long list of observations from the Monday Night devastation against the Niners.
  • Adrian Peterson has a favorite riddle for you. Oh, and also he trusts Norv Turner and wants to improve and stuff.
  • The Vikings have a long list of things to fix in a short week or else panic will start to set in.
  • The Vikings are planning to keep Gerald Hodges at middle linebacker for the time being.
  • Paul Allen thinks that fullback Zach Line and running back Adrian Peterson need to develop some chemistry to help things improve.
  • Forbes Magazine recently ranked the worth of NFL franchises, including the Vikings.
  • If asked to do so, Xavier Rhodes is prepared to shadow Calvin Johnson on Sunday.
  • Everson Griffen has been emotional this week and guaranteed a win over Detroit.
  • Linval Joseph and Sharrif Floyd have formed a bond on and off the field.
  • Rookie tackle T.J. Clemmings is giving up social media to, in part, prepare for this week’s matchup.
  • Teddy Bridgewater admitted that he was too excited to play well on Monday night.
  • The Vikings had full participation in practice this week indicating they are as healthy as one would hope heading into Week Two.
  • Kicker Blair Walsh admits he is in a slump but insists no major changes are needed to correct the issues.
  • And now, your moment of Zen:

  • The losing must stop. I wasn't all that confident going in to SF, feel a better this week...but not much. It seems the team feels somewhat good, like they know something we don't. We'll see.
A must win? Yeah, I think so.
I'll say this, it was a complete team loss. Top to bottom. After the blocked FG I felt good, then freaking Norv decided that 3 straight passes would be a grand idea! I could not believe it! He Musgraved it..."let's not dare freaking run the ball! That's just what they're expecting us to do!" HAHAHAHAHA.
    HA.
Un. Real. Then of course the defense gets shredded on the ground. Completely out coached and out played in the run game.
Top to bottom folks. And it starts at the top Mr. Zimmer. And you, Norv.

  • I know you would lose a roster spot but I would of brought in another kicker and if he looked good go in with 2 kickers. Blair if you miss one more kick you get the hook. If you make 5 in a row you gain yourself a free miss, so if you make 7 and then miss 1 then you are up to 2 to the good and you need to make the next 3. Extra points miss counts as a miss but a made one counts as 0.25 of a field goal. If you get the hook the same rule applies for the other kicker. I think they baby the kickers too much. They should be under just as much pressure to lose their job as anyone else. Nothing like fear of losing ones job to clear up the focus.
