WEEK TWO OPEN THREAD: Homecoming Versus Detroit

By Adam Warwas

Less than one week after a disgusting display in San Francisco, your Minnesota Vikings are back in Vikings territory for their home opener and first divisional matchup.

The 2015 rookie class is getting even less exposure to life in the NFL this week, but our roster is relatively healthy outside of those already known to be out of action, like Phil Loadholt and John Sullivan.

Austin Belisle has done a great job of explaining the importance Xavier Rhodes has in the outcome of this showdown and I’m looking forward to seeing him line up across from Calvin Johnson. Lindsey Young thinks stretching the field on offense could also be a key to a much-needed victory this week.

Meanwhile, Brent LaBathe thinks we could see a much different version of Mike Zimmer’s defense this week given that Matt Stafford is far less mobile than Colin Kaepernick. I personally agree with Brent on that aspect and will be mightily disappointed if we don’t see marked improvement on defense this week.

I am guessing that we see another game with sloppy moments that are yell-at-your-TV worthy, but I’m also guessing we see a much better effort than last week’s debacle. This game might come down to which team has the better kicker, which doesn’t give me a huge amount of faith, but I am still thinking the Vikings come out of Sunday with their first victory of 2015.

24-20, Vikings.

Be sure to discuss all the action in the comments below during the game and check back here for post-game analysis!

  • Pretty good performance(I missed probably 15 minutes between the 3rd and 4th quarter though), Peterson needs to do whatever he did between 09-10 to hold onto the ball. Hodges needs to be benched, he made a couple great plays be had way too many terrible ones.
Kalil, without that penalty, looked like a monster again. He handled Ansah easily. Bridgewater looked how we expected last week, and Rhodes did great versus Megatron.

  • Very good game. Team victory! Tuck that ball AD, tuck the ball dude. Teddy played smart. Defense looked like we thought they would.
Officials screwed things up at the end. What was that?
