As we get closer to the NFL Draft, it’s critical that fans and media alike find ways to aggregate the mountains of information they have and concisely explain what we need to know about the top prospects about to enter the NFL. In the interest of doing so, I’ve compiled one sentence scouting reports on the Top 40 players as determined by CBS’ draft rankings—among the best in the industry.
- Jadeveon Clowney, DE South Carolina – He’s great, but he’s no Julius Peppers
- Greg Robinson, OT Auburn – He’s great, but he’s no Orlando Pace
- Khalil Mack, OLB Buffalo – He’s great, but he’s no Lawrence Taylor
- Sammy Watkins, WR Clemson – He’s great, but he’s no Wes Chandler
- Jake Matthews, OT Texas A&M – He’s great, but he’s no Ron Yary
- Blake Bortles, QB Central Florida – He’s great, but he’s no John Elway
- Johnny Manziel, QB Texas A&M – He’s great, but he’s no Joe Namath
- Taylor Lewan, OT Michigan – He’s great, but he’s no Tony Mandarich

- Aaron Donald, DT Pittsburgh – He’s great, but he’s no Ndamukong Suh
- Darqueze Dennard, CB Michigan State – He’s great, but he’s no Charles Woodson
- Teddy Bridgewater, QB Louisville – He’s actually very good and we shouldn’t go out of our way to unnecessarily diminish that
- Zack Martin, OG Notre Dame – He’s great, but he’s no John Hannah
- Hasean Clinton-Dix, FS Alabama – He’s great, but he’s no Sean Taylor
- Odell Beckham Jr., WR LSU – He’s great, but he’s no Johnny Jones
- Timmy Jernigan, DT Florida State – He’s great, but he’s no Dan Wilkinson
- Brandin Cooks, WR Oregon State – He’s great, but he’s no Don Hutson

- Kyle Fuller, CB Virginia Tech – He’s great, but he’s no Patrick Peterson
- Marqise Lee, WR USC – He’s great, but he’s no Keyshawn Johnson
- Jason Verrett, CB TCU – He’s great, but he’s no Shawn Springs
- Allen Robinson, WR Penn State – He’s great, but he’s no Charles Rogers
- Tom Savage, QB Pittsburgh – He does not deserve to be here, by any reasonable stretch of the imagination. Why is he here?
- Bradley Roby, CB Ohio State – He’s great, but he’s no Terence Newman
- RaShede Hageman, DT Minnesota – He’s great, but he’s no Cortez Kennedy
- Cyrus Kouandjio, OT Alabama – He’s great, but he’s no D’Brickashaw Ferguson
- Kony Ealy, DE Missouri – He’s great, but he’s no Bubba Smith
- Xavier Su’a-Filo, OG UCLA – He’s great, but he’s no Bill Fralic
- Morgan Moses OT Virginia – He’s great, but he’s no Jake Long
- Jace Amaro, TE Texas Tech – He’s great, but he’s no Kellen Winslow Jr.
- Donte Moncrief WR, Ole Miss – He’s great, but he’s no Desmond Howard
- Stephon Tuitt, DT Notre Dame – He’s great, but he’s no Ray Childress
It should be noted there are also no Bo Jacksons, Bronko Nagurskis, Jim Thorpes or Chuck Bednariks. It truly is one of the weakest drafts in NFL history. Prospects that just missed the cut were no Tony Bosellis, Eric Dickersons, Aundray Bruces or Bruce Smiths.

Ndamukong Suh, DT Nebraska - He's great, but he's no Letroy Guion.
Good point
The Vikings have 2 picks in the top 40.
So I will take Khalil Mack in the top half and Derek Carr in the bottom half as my two favorites in each half.
I can also live with Bridgewater and Ryan Shazier.
"He's no Tony Mandarich" has to be considered a good thing.
Hahahaha .. Loved it.
Somebody will be that good on this list man! Especially the late first early seconds.
Everybody gets locked in on a guy and that's your guy, but I'll judge you by your entire body of scouting work if Bridgewater isn't the all-pro, and Tom Savage makes a dent in the league.
Allen Robinson is no Charles Rogers?
Now this I like
Fran Tarkington was no Joe Namath

one of the crews and was paid a visit by Dave, who threw his television set out the window.
These two incidents are in reality patently meaningless.
