Derek Cox Latest Corner To Join The Vikings

By Adam Warwas

After signing Captain Munnerlyn to a three year contract, the Vikings apparently continued their quest for secondary help, and the result is a reported deal with Derek Cox.

Cox has five years of NFL experience and most recently spent last season in San Diego, playing all 16 games with them.  He was a third round selection of the Jaguars in 2009 and was there for his first four NFL seasons.  He has 13 career interceptions and appears to be healthy again after some injuries caused him to slump for a couple of seasons.

At age 27, Cox joins an aggressive campaign to improve Minnesota’s defense in short order, and the competition will be fairly intense when training camp rolls around.  Still, Cox is not a guy to sleep on, and has the size (6′ 1″ and 195 pounds) to succeed if called upon.

More details will be posted here as they become available.

    • Was thinking that the other day WTF. Tomb, you're missing out buddy...Adam signed Arif, and Fran has passed you on the comments!

      • tomb was caught wearing a vikings jersey just outside the seattle city limits right after the super bowl

he was immediately impaled by vlad the twelfth man, and staked to his spot near the city's entrance, along with many other 'lesser-teams' fans

        • But I had noticed that 'Fran’s Forum' disappeared. Come to think of it, right around the time Arif showed up. Coincidence? IDK but if you had something to do with that Arif, I want my money back (You know what I'm talking about) :)

  • Well.. He earned a nice contract heading into last season and was panned to the point that the chargers moved on from his 10+ mil guarantee. Could be a bounce back candidate.

    • Not only interceptions Cal but pick sixes too. Or I should say 4 (Pick sixes) by the Captain alone in the last two seasons.
We have REALLY improved this defense in a BIG way.

  • This should be a great signing (holding out until financials are available). You get a 27 year old corner with good size who has had success before, and because he was released, it doesn't have an effect on our comp picks in 2016.

  • This is could actually be on of the best signings this year if Zim can get him to consistently get him to play at a high level. It is a low risk, high reward situation.
