2014 Minnesota Vikings: Vikings Place Matt Cassel, Brandon Fusco on IR, Sign Players to Practice Squad

By Arif Hasan

The Vikings have announced that Matt Cassel, who fractured several bones in his foot on Sunday, and Brandon Fusco, who suffered a pectoral injury, will be put on injured reserve. Neither of them have received the Designated to Return label.

In addition, Chase Ford and Austin Wentworth have been signed from the practice squad to the active roster.

To take their spots, quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson and tight end Ryan Otten have been signed to the practice squad.

  • It's a new day! A new era is upon us....for some reason I have much confidence in Teddy B. From Arif's extensive scouting reports on him, that were impressive. To watching him in college, to the pre-season....to listening to him and those around him. What's not to like?
Vikings are gonna win this game, just watch. Zimmer knows how to call a defense, Norv better know how to exploit this sorry Falcon D! Teddy knows how to play QB. A quote from Felton- ''He doesn't really get overwhelmed,'' fullback Jerome Felton said. ''He works hard. He's humble. He comes prepared. So I think that's the biggest thing. He prepares himself well. He's in here early, leaves late, so he'll be just fine.''

    • I think we will go better than most people think,as long as the O Line can step it up we have a good chance!

  • I hope you're right. It just seems like this team has been dealt one crippling blow after another. Apart from (god forbid) a debilitating injury to Teddy, things have gone about as poorly as that possible could this year. Maybe it's the purple koolaid I'm drinking, or maybe its the extensive scouting reports that Arif was writing about Teddy back when it seemed like the Vikings didn't have a chance of getting him, but I do believe he's the best option the Vikings have had in years. Any player can turn out to be a bust, but Teddy has more ability and potential than Ponder ever displayed. At some point, it seems like the cream should rise to the top regardless of circumstances. Teddy will be the starter for the foreseeable future. I'm just hoping the team doesn't find a way to get him killed or ruin his career the way before it really get going. I admit I'm a pessimist, but damn, after 30 odd years of watching this team, don't I have a right to be?

    • Biggest thing that worries me is the O Line, especially with Fusco out! Ducasse is very poor IMO and Kalil really needs to find his mojo to keep Teddy from being hammered.

  • sure, things suck right now, but at least it isn't january and we've got vikings games to watch

  • Is everything okay with the VT staff? For Arif to go 8 hours without an article is rare but 5 days is unheard of!
