Monday Night Football: Live Chat With Us

By Adam Warwas

Okay, Vikings fans, our team is down.  They are almost out.  In prime time they are playing an 0-6 football team that were Super Bowl champions just 21 months ago.  They have to play their most hated enemies six days from now.  They have a new quarterback taking the wheel and Adrian Peterson is still the best that the NFL has to offer.  The drama is bursting at the seams and we have plenty to chat about.

So, let’s chat.

Be sure to join us, and the best Vikings fans in the world, on our live chat page.  You can join by CLICKING HERE.

  • Yeah, the arm strength of Josh Freeman is really impressive, way stronger than our other QB's. Me? I prefer the guy we had in there when we were scoring 30 points a game. Oh yeah, I forgot, he had accuracy issues, only completing 59.5% of his passes. Yeah, we got that fixed now too. And Freeman is certainly mobile. Not many QB's can take a snap at the 20 and get sacked out of FG range. That is some mobility right there!

Maybe once Freeman can get more reps at practice he can complete 45% of his passes.

    • That's fair. Ponder's 30 career Viking starts vs. Freeman's 1 career Viking start...after a week and a half. Stupid Freeman totally dismantled an obvious playoff contender.

      • "...totally dismantled a playoff contender" which we were last year with you-know-who as QB. (But it wasn't because of him, so that doesn't count.)

Fair? Yeah let's talk fair, Tomb, I'm fine with that. In the last 6 games started by Christian Ponder, the Vikings scored 36,23,37,24,30,27. But those numbers aren't good enough, Big Reach, so the "fair" thing to do is have you stand on the sidelines and watch us score 10,7 (7 in mop-up mode and 7 by the Special teams.) You guys feel sorry for Freeman? That's fine. I will feel sorry for Ponder and sleep very well doing so. At least now we've had the chance to see what bad quarterbacking really looks like.

Yes, krug, I am disappointed in our coaches, Spielman, whomever, going all the way back to buying into this anti-Ponder garbage to begin with. Leslie & Co. have to answer for this, and I am afraid that this flirtation with the QB position is going to cost him dearly.

        • You're really obsessing on the QB position. Did you even notice how bad our defense is playing this year?

          • Come to think of it you're right, Tomb. Somebody needed to bring that to my attention - thank you my friend. Someone else also mentioned issues with the offensive line. That was another area that had not crossed my mind.

        • good words, Coach.....I've never been a Ponder basher, but watching him from the day he was drafted, I think he's missing the "it" factor, whatever that is.....a good QB but not a great one, and oh don't we all wish we had a great QB to lead the Purple to the promised land.....I hear ya loud and clear, players have to be accountable, offense vs defense, etc.....I always come back to the same thing (yeah yeah broken record), no matter the roster, no matter the draft picks, FAs and trades, all of the above, if ya don't have the right GM and complete coaching staff, it matters none.....this staff couldn't coach 22 pro bowlers to a 500 record.....Dan said Frazier should call these guys for poor play.....agreed, and a step further, the Wilfs should give an interview in which they put the whole organization on notice,,,,turn this around or your gone....and do it now......and when the axe falls, it better fall on Spielman too.....Norseman nailed it, Frazier makes Tice and Chilly look like geniuses.....the networks are calling last night's game one of the worse MNFs in history, and even give it as an example of how the whole league in deteriorating ( free agency, trades, salaries, coaches, Goodell, practices, safety, rules, loyalty, owners, expansion. lawyers, fines, suspensions, sunshine, lollypops and rainbowws).....what a laugher, Frazier is not only bringing down the Vikings, apparently, he's bringing down the entire NFL.......whew, quick, Zygi, fire this guy before the collapse of the American Empire! waaaaaaaay too much time on my hands today.....

    • Coach, it isn't like you to stoop so low in your assessment of a player. What is it about Freeman you loath so much?

      • I think I "loath" what he stands for on our team right now, Adam. I know I can't deny what I posted, but my point was directed more at the fact that we didn't give ourselves the best chance to win that game or save our season by playing this guy Monday night. His performance wasn't just that he hadn't practiced long enough. That reveals itself in throwing into the wrong route, reading a route different than a receiver, etc. This guy didn't just come in from driving a cab for the last 6 months. He has gone through a training camp / 4 pre-season games / 3 regular season games... and he completes 38% of his passes. Thirty eight percent! He was missing guys on standard routes by a mile. Tampa let him go partly because of his 47% completion rate this season, so this should not have been all that surprising.

I'm still just generally tiffed that the whole fan base went so bonkers about our QB "situation" while scoring near or over 30 points every game - 7th in the league. And now... the season truly is lost.

      • Though I am "loath" to bring it up, in this particular case, you meant "loathe." Thank you for your attention to this matter.

        • I dropped the "e" on purpose, Tomb. They don't call me the "snoop dog of VT" for nothing.... or at all... I just can't spell.

  • It is obvious that the coaches have lost this team. Time to do some house cleaning!!!!

  • coach, you have nothing to say about the coaches who prepared him and made the call to play him?

  • I feel really bad for Josh Freeman tonight. I was on board with starting him, but it was ridiculously apparent that the guy wasn't ready. There had to be signs of that in practice right? He'll be the best QB on the roster in a few weeks, but it was a terrible decision to play him this evening. I also feel a little bad for Sherels. It isn't often you see a guy go from potential cult hero to total zero in the span of about 20 seconds. If he makes that pick six we likely end up winning the game and he becomes a rock star. Instead he drops the ball and then fumbles away the ensuing punt to pretty much put the nail in the coffin. I do appreciate the fact that it seemed to matter to him, and the defense played better than I expected them too tonight. It would be nice if they hadn't opened the game allowing another 16 play 10 minute drive, but they kept the point total down. Have fun at the weekly press conferences Leslie. If Spielman demanded Freeman start this week I sure hope Frazier lets us all know. Boy did this backfire on them tonight.

    • I agree. Freeman was not ready to play yet. He was in a no win situation. I think it is safe to say that out coaches are the worst in the league.

    • Marcus "Don't be a Hero" Sherels has had a fine season, marred by two boneheaded moments in a game chalk full of them. How he responds will say a lot about his future in this league.

  • I've been sitting here for quite a while now and I can't think of anything else bad to say about the current Vikings.........so I'm going to bed now

  • I just watched Leslie's presser and I do have one thing that I need to say. The reason this team continues to not make plays is because the coach has created a culture where not making plays has been completely acceptable. Dropping interceptions on defense is not something that just recently developed with this team. They have been terrible in that department ever since Frazier got here so I get irritated when he brings that up. If you don't like it when guys fail to create turnovers, do something about it. Take them out of the damn game for a couple plays to let them know it matters. I'm so sick of watching our CB's chasing WR's without so much as glancing back towards the QB. I watched the Seahawks game last Thursday and was in awe of how much time their DB's spent with their eyes on the QB. If you want to make plays on the ball it helps to see where the ball is. If you wait until it's already in the receivers hands your not going to be very successful in this league. I'm just praying they don't completely ruin Xavier Rhodes over the course of the season. This guy could be a top 5 corner in this league but he needs proper coaching to get there.

  • I just watched the post game interviews with Freeman and Frazier. Some scary information came out that confirms that the Vikings coaches do not know what the hell they are doing.

    1. Frazier said that they felt that they had a good game plan for Freeman.

    2. The reporters said that Freeman only had 4 (yes, 4 practices since he arrived!)

Can somebody tell me why you would make a new QB who has had only 4 practices on a new team, throw the ball over 50 times and and think that was a good game plan when AP only had 16 carries?
Frazier never spoke up against this so called good game plan? Are you kidding me?!!! WOW! These guys are making Chilly look like a rhodes scholar!

    • Your question is key. Ponder, with a full offseason of prep, should not throw the ball 50 times with AD healthy and on the roster. The lack of balance is absurd.

  • Wow. Pretty hard to watch. Right up there with the worst Viking team I have ever seen take the field.
    In Frazier's defense, I'll say. . . .shoot, I got nothing.
I think maybe he thinks, "Go back and look at the film" has something to do with time travel and maybe he gets to "Go Back"? I get so tired of him saying that 7 times each presser

Too many problems all across the board on this team. It needs to be blown up and started over.

I actually feel badly for Freeman. He'll probably end up the starter for the rest of the year (If the O-line doesn't get him killed) and he definitely threw some real bad balls but he flat wasn't ready and had no business out there. The coaches should have been aware of that. Plus,he was under pressure ALL night.

Get on the phone Ziggy, you need to start over.

    • This team has talent. They don't need to blow it up and they don't need to start over. They need something or someone to come along that can bring them back together, make the cohesive. I think that person will either be a quarterback or a coach.

      • QB, O-line, secondary, LB's and up until this last game, our D-line have ranked at the bottom of the league. Our coaching has been laughable.
I'm sticking with blowing it up and starting over.
I'd also like to see new ownership, maybe even actual Viking fans running the team.
