Vikings Have Contacted A Pair Of Defensive Backs

By Adam Warwas

The Vikings somewhat shored up the safety position by retaining Jamarca Sanford this offseason, but a secondary depth chart that was already thin on talent before the Vikings released Antoine Winfield could use some new talent to try and keep up in a division with three very capable passing games.

Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN reports that the Vikings have contacted cornerback Antoine Cason and free safety Gerald Sensabaugh.  Wolfson says the Vikings are simply doing their due diligence and are making lots of calls, so we probably shouldn’t read too much into this news.

Still, it is encouraging to see the Vikings trying to improve the depth chart in the defensive backfield, as it would be mistake to be content with Marcus Sherels and A.J. Jefferson as two of your top options.

  • Maybe an Antoine Winfield would have been a better option? Sorry, consider the dead horse already beaten..........

  • I wish they would have thrown their hat in the ring for Sean Smith. The guy got a 3 year deal that averages $6 million a year. That would have been a nice combo of tall corners pairing him with Cook. They also lost one of my budget receivers today with Ogletree signing with the Bucs.

  • yea sean smith would have been a solid pick up, but how about antoine cason, this guy has never missed a game in 5 years and one year had 17 pass deflections with four int, two other years he had about 12-17 pass deflections with 2 picks. He is also 6'1 so the size is their, i know the tampa 2 doesn't require the greatest corners or deep money into them but i think they would be a terrific move. honestly the vikings want to build thru the draft and i agree but imagine adding jennings and maybe cason then you have 11 pick to really pick up depth and BPA. i mean hunter, patterson, and austin are all deep threat possibilities with one of our first two picks, then we can alo grab a DT or LB like arthur brown or like a DT short with the other first rounder.
