First Free Agency Report Is, Well… Not Shocking

By Adam Warwas

I decided to stay awake as long as I could during this new, weird free agency (but not really) deal that the NFL is doing these days.

I was able to find out one thing that should have been obvious to us all:  The Vikings called the agents of receivers Mike Wallace and Greg Jennings.

Those reports come from Pro Football Central and otherwise have absolutely no detail.

So, yeah, glad I stayed awake.

Five of those years have been here at Vikings Territory where he continues to surround himself with enough talented individuals that people keep coming back. As proud as he is of what Vikings Territory has become, his real treasures are in his home... a beautiful wife and three amazing children (and a dog named Percy).

  • should vikings pursue Alexander from chargers? they tendered him with an original tag, but since he was undrafted they would receive nothing in return. - They worst thing that can happen is that chargers match our offer

    • Injuries are a concern there... but at this point, we need anybody we can get, lol.

  • I was really hoping they would bring him in last year when the Rams released him, but I didn't read any rumors about them being interested. The fact that the Chargers elected to go with a low tender tells me they don't have much faith in the long term health of his knees. I would sure bring him in for a physical and talk, but I don't expect him to be signed. PFT's reporting that the Cards are releasing Doucet. He could be a good option for depth, he still has some potential.

  • That same site is reporting the Vikes are investigating corner options. I wonder if Sean Smith from Miami could be on their radar. His size would be a nice fit for our defense. There's a lot of teams interested in him though so the price is probably going to be pretty steep.

    • To be honest, I have no idea if that site is reputable. I have a hard time respecting a site that doesn't say anything about who they are or cite their sources.

    • Huh? Isn't that the same link I just provided in the previous post? I'm lost.

  • I am surprised that the Vikes have not restructured and extended Jared Allen's and Kevin Williams's contracts to makes more cap room. What about Loadholt? All is quiet on the Vikings front. It seems kinda eerie!

    • Yeah... took my boy to Monster Jam today... was worried I'd miss some big Vikes news. And.... Nope.

  • You know what I keep coming back to?;
Even if we get a top notch WR who can "Take the top off" the defense, can Ponder get him the ball?
I can count on one hand ALL of the deep balls that I have seen Ponder throw in the last two years and only recall a couple of those as being sucessfull. Truthfully, only one comes to mind and Ithink it was a 65 yarder to Simpson? At any rate, I'm still worried whether or not Ponder is our long term answer to QB.
    Here's hoping!

    • My take on that is that he has not had anything to work with. The Vikes have one if not the worst WR corps in the league. Simpson, Jenkins, Aromashodu and Burton will not strike fear in any opponent. Even in the lingerie league,

  • Yeah Our wr corps is pretty sad...
If you can think of a worse one, Let me know :(

  • in other news, my lumber salesman, Mike, called me this last week. He ran into Jared Allen at a local restaurant here in Kailua, Oahu. Mike is a huge Vikings fan, wears Purple every day. He said Jared and him had a beer at the bar, he then commented to me that Jared Allen's wife is smoking hot but a total b*tch. I mentioned that might have had something to do with him intruding on their dinner. Either way, Jared was here for the Pro Bowl, flew back to the mainland for his surgery, and then returned to Kailua to re-hab and train this off season. I will keep an eye out for a 6'6" haole guy jogging around our streets the next few months. One other thing, Mike knows local player Dominic Raiola, from the Lions. He gave Jared Allen Dominic's phone number. Dominic later called Mike to thank him, guess JA called him up

      • Adam, all those Raiola boys went to St. Louis HS, (local Catholic school) so not only is he a big b*tch, he's a big b*stard as well, nuttin' against the religion, but boys who graduate from that school are a bunch of punk azzes. My kids went to public schools, they survived.

  • Here is some news!!! Found this on Rotoworld:

Citing "some good sources around the NFL," the Minneapolis Star-Tribune's Sid Hartman reports Percy Harvin has informed the Vikings that he does not want to play for them anymore and "wants to be traded."
Hartman is a columnist with a spotty track record, so keep that in mind. After explaining that Harvin doesn't get along with the coaching and medical staffs, Hartman acknowledges GM Rick Spielman "is in the driver's seat." Harvin is signed for 2013 and the Vikings could keep him with consecutive franchise tags the following two seasons. Additionally, Hartman reports Harvin won't be in attendance when Vikings offseason workouts begin on April 22.

    • Norseman, not doubting your story one bit, but isn't Sid too busy filming "Walking Dead" these days to be writing a sports column? Never seen the show, but I've heard that Sid's the best zombie of all time. I don't think he's actually acting tho......

      • Quite possibly true!! But it would make a lot of sense. Harvin needs to go. If we can get a 2nd and a 4th or 5th or a 6th, I would ship his arse out of town in a heartbeat. Just another primma donna WR.

    • Thanks Norse... saw that too, it set Twitter on fire :) Got a post up about it now.
