Practice Squad Update

By Carl Knowles

The Vikings signed defensive end Tristan Okpalaugo to the eight-man practice squad joining RB Joe Banyard, G Travis Bond, DT Everett Dawkins, TE Chase Ford, OT Kevin Murphy, WR Rodney Smith and Adam Thielen.

Cornerback Bobby Felder and defensive end D’Aundre Reed were waived/injured and placed on injured reserve after clearing waivers. Both players have ankle injuries sustained in the final preseason game.

Okpalaugo is a 6-foot-4 260 pound defensive end from Fresno State that has the tools to play standing up and with his hand on the ground. The undrafted rookie had a good preseason for the Dolphins racking up 3 sacks, 8 tackles, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery. Okpalaugo is a unique versatile prospect with long arms and explosive leaping ability. He shows good change of direction movement and can drop back into zone coverage and be used in multiple formations.

Okpalaugo was a fan favorite in Miami this preseason, but he was playing one of the deepest positions for the Dolphins. Miami may have been trying/hoping to hide Okpalaugo on thier practice squad, but Rick Spielman will stick it to the Dolphins any chance he gets.

  • Thanks for the latest Carl. I would prefer that Spielman stick it to the Dallas Cryboys every chance he gets.

  • Eubanks ended up on Cleveland's P'squad. The Packers backup QB situation is almost getting comical. They cut all three guys to actually play for them this pre-season and are now rolling with Seneca Wallace as Rogers backup.

  • Sounds like a good pickup for us. Just hope some team doesn't sign him during the regular season.

  • "Practise?"

Forgive me if you've covered this already, but I assume you hail from Canadia, or perhaps jolly olde England?

Do you also spell color as "colour?"

I have to admit, it adds a certain elegance.

    • I like it. I think we should use "defence" also. It adds mystique to the site.

      • If we really want to get archaically classy, we can go with the "long s" (also known as the medial or descending s), where you replace as s with an f, such as "Congrefs."

e.g.: "Adrian Peterfon had a brilliant game."

  • Do I have this right? Tomb tactfully supportive of a slight miscue and Freds being a tool? Just when you think there is order in the universe...

    • I can buy into the "Tomb as a tool" mantra, but Freds is usually supportive? Ya lost me there.

  • I see that Chris Kluwe now has more time to continue his journalistic and social correctness pursuits. Maybe practicing punting should have been given a greater priority.

  • .... so now that Tomb got that settled .......... who IS on the Practise Squad? ..... Kluwe?

    • Reason given was that Randle gives them a better impersonator of Reggie Bush in practice. It will be interesting to see if they flip flop Randle and Banyard like they did the two offensive lineman last year.
