Ha-Ha-Harvin Ha-Ha-Has To Ha-Ha-Have Surgery

By Adam Warwas

Okay, laughing about a guy’s painful injury and pending surgery is classless.  I just can’t help but think that Rick Spielman, who has never shown us anything to suspect he can be classless (right Antoine?), at least grinned a little as he laid his perfect head of hair on his pillow tonight.

News has broken that Percy Harvin, recently traded to Seattle for a bunch of draft picks, will require surgery on his torn labrum and is likely going to miss significant time this offseason.  The news will calm the nerves of some Vikings fans who felt Cordarrelle Patterson was not an adequate replacement for Harvin, while also making Spielman look like a damned genius.

While we can allow ourselves to be mildly entertained by this saga, and perhaps even give Spielman an extra exuberant high-five, PFT reports it wasn’t quite the heist we think it was.  Well, it was, but it wasn’t on purpose.  They say that Harvin was “100%” when the Seahawks traded for him, and that the injury he now faces was a result of offseason workouts.

While Spielman may not have swindled Seattle, he did swindle Seattle… just in a more ethical way.  In the end, this trade could end up going into the history books with a similar stigma as the Poison Pill fiasco and Walker Trade, especially if Harvin is never again able to regain the spark he had for four years in Minnesota, which is entirely possible with an injury of this nature.

In all seriousness, we wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in action soon.  The Vikings play Seattle in Week 11, however, so maybe he should consider giving that labrum some extra rehab time and sideline himself until at least December.

  • Do they sell Vikings Jerseys with Spielman's name on the back. If not, then they should. After he pulled this heist, he deserves it. It hasn't always been easy for me to agree with him or trust him, but this past couple of years he has earned my full support and should be a candidate for Executive of the Year.

  • Crazy happenings...It appears as though old Ricky has acquired a crystal ball. The Vikes would be in bad shape had Cheech been re-signed, with no Jennings or Patterson.
    But it is early.
From the early reports, it seems Rhodes is the gem of our 1st round. And I like the sound of it, Defense! Ponder is struggling, but hope remains. If he can be just a bit above average we might have something here. I'm liking the look of this Defense. And we still have AD/AP...
And before Fran corrects me....that's what HE says to call him!

  • it's tempting to say we fleeced them, but we don't know if he would've gotten hurt if he had stayed with us. if he did everything the same, yeah, then he would've got hurt the same way. maybe we got a little lucky. maybe he'll torch us in november, too. right now it feels good, and i like the draft we had

  • Ha-Ha-Harvin? LOL. Adam, I never figured you for a schadenfreude kind of guy...at least not in a public format.

My suspicion that Ohio hardens a man much the way prison does just gained some significant validation.

In any case, as one of the absolute haters of the initial trade, I'm feeling a whole helluva lot better. Spielman, you magnificent bastard.

  • I wasn't happy when the trade was made. I was ok with it after they signed Jennings. I was thrilled after the draft....and now, well, just ecstatic. I live in Seahawks country, and have taken it upon myself to personally make sure every fan knows the Vikes crushed them in this trade.

    • Hey Fozz good to see ya! Don't forget to bring up Rice with your Seahawk friends. I hear he's overseas getting treatment on his knee.

  • The only thing that would have made this trade better would have been if it was with the Puckers.

  • As you all well know your old pal Fragile has ways of gaining information from Winter Park that others simply don't have.

Freds has received this hidden camera feed from Coach Leslie's office at the exact second he received the unfortunate news about Percy's injury.

    • Too bad you did not have a video showing Spielman popping the cork off a bottle of champagne.
