Marking The End Of The Combine

By Adam Warwas

Well, the NFL Scouting Combine has come and gone already and, with February dragging on one day longer than normal, we are almost into the month of free agency.

While the Combine seldom produces huge impacts on the draft stocks of individual players, it does play a part in confirming certain skills or attributes of a prospect.  So, naturally, it is time to dust off my nearly month-old mock draft and give it a new coat of paint.

You can view the latest version of my 2012 mock draft by clicking here.

I have yet to venture into the second round.  However, the Vikings are scheduled to make a selection three picks after the first round ends.  So, if the Draft plays out like my mock predicts, which prospect do you think the Vikings are most likely to target in the second round?  Let me know in the comments section.

  • I think you have to make sure which team you think will trade up for RG III since it will affect how the rest of the draft goes.
    - in the 2nd round I think we will end up with S. Gilmore

    • Thanks for the comment Malte. I have Gilmore going to the Giants at 32 in this scenario.

I agree, the RGIII trade will shake up this trade big time, making people turn their mocks upside down. Still, at this point, I'm waiting to predict their trade partner until things calm down a little. Free agency will be shaking things up anyways :)

  • Adam, what do you think will happen if Washington and Miami come out of free agency with Flynn and Manning? I think most teams outside of Cleveland lack the picks to move up to the 2nd pick and draft, RGIII. If I were the Rams, I would be looking to trade with the Browns, not only do they have the 4th pick, but they have another first rounder and play in a very competitive division, so any future picks will likely be quite high!

As for our 2nd round pick, tt all depends on what the Vikes do in free agency, say they land a G (Nicks) then I think they should go CB/DT/WR, which ever represents the best value at that point. I'm hoping that, Mark Barron, drops out of the first round due to the fact he won't be able to work out before the draft due to double hernia surgery. If not, Trumaine Johnson (CB) from Montana or Rendall Reyes (DT) from UConn, would fit needs.

Then I think the Rams missed out on an opportunity (see my posts a few newer than this one) to really pit teams against each other in an auction. Browns are probably the most attractive trade partner to the Rams, for the reasons you stated, but something tells me Holmgren might be a little more stubborn about trading up for RGIII than people realize. Trivia: When was the last time Holmgren drafted a QB in the first round?
