Large, Speedy DB Johnson To Visit

By Adam Warwas

The Vikings just got back their young, lanky, talented cornerback with off-the-field issues when Chris Cook was acquitted of his most recent troubles.

As it turns out, the Vikings want to take a closer look at a young, lanky, talented cornerback with off-the-field issues prior to April’s NFL Draft.

Montana defensive back (he could end up at either corner or free safety) Trumaine Johnson will reportedly take part in a pre-Draft visit with the Vikings.

At 6’ 2” and 204 pounds, Johnson ran a 4.50 forty time at the Scouting Combine.  At the Combine, he also had to answer questions about an October incident in which he was tased by police and arrested.  He was charged with obstructing an officer, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.

In addition to his big frame, Johnson has solid instincts as a ballhawk, and is a very solid tackler.  It is expected that Johnson will be targeted around the second or third rounds of the Draft.

In addition to Johnson, so far we know that the Vikings will meet prior to the Draft with offensive tackle Jonathan Martin, cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick, and safety D.J. Campbell.

  • Is it me or did the page flip back again? Hmmm.. maybe it's time to cut down on the "adult beverages". Anyway, just thought I'd post this little tidbit I found on Rotoworld.

ESPN's Kevin Seifert has "grown increasingly convinced" that the Vikings will listen to trade offers for the third overall pick in April's draft.
Seifert is just connecting dots here, suggesting that the quarterback-needy Browns and Dolphins are both looking at Ryan Tannehill. Selecting fourth, the Browns currently have a leg up on Miami, who could look to leapfrog their top contenders for the Texas A&M quarterback. The Dolphins and Browns may float offers, but we doubt they'll be strong enough to convince the Vikings passing on Matt Kalil is worth it.

    • Norse,
      It did!
Wish they could bring in talented kids that aren't thugs for a change,Matt Kalil could be the anchor on the line for the next Decade! Really hope they draft him...

      • I completely agree. Franchise left tackles like this don't come around very often.

    • It did, Norse, haha! Sorry... I was running into a few issues with tables displaying properly and couldn't get it resolved quickly. Good to know that it you guys like it on either side, though.

      • It really doesn't matter to me. I just thought those "barley pops" were catching up to me. Whew!! glad to know I have some room for a couple more. It was almost 90F today in Houston. Have to keep hydrated ya know.

  • I was referring to Johnson and Cook as far as thugs..
    Not Kirkpatrick or Campbell...

  • If Cleveland truly want Tannehill, and Miami come calling looking to trade up, I hope they just take what ever Cleveland offers, even if it is less value than what they should get. Then they pick up a few picks, even if they are next year and still get Kalil. Trading back with Miami could mean missing out on Claiborne, Kalil and Blackmon...

  • I would like to see the vikings trade with cleveland and get kalil and still manage to get both killpatrick , trumaine johnson that should strenghten our back field go vikes

  • I would like to see them trade to cleveland pick kalil then get kirkpatrick and stil get trumaine johnson that would strenghten our backfield
