Five of those years have been here at Vikings Territory where he continues to surround himself with enough talented individuals that people keep coming back. As proud as he is of what Vikings Territory has become, his real treasures are in his home... a beautiful wife and three amazing children (and a dog named Percy).

  • It's pretty quiet around here, I feel the same way. I was wondering how many tackles were missed today? Had to be a crap ton. They couldnt do the basics, block or tackle.

    • Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright; The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light, And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout; But there is no joy in Mudville — mighty Ponder has struck out.

  • The offensive game plan was not a good one. It should've been to pound the hell out of em with AP. Saw an awful lot of play action on 1st down...coaches should know better. Doesn't make sense. Don't let it happen again, big priority #1 is to give the ball to #28, any questions?
Run to set up the pass, see maybe some other teams can do it the other way....not this one, not with Ponder. Any chance to get in the post season will be lost soon if the kid doesn't get it soon. Some times you just gotta throw it! Throw the damn ball! Don't be scared to throw it, it may be a small window, but you have to get the ball out of your hand!

    • It does seem to be a weird nuance of this team, regardless of coach. They love outsmarting themselves by not playing to their strengths. Whether it's Daunte "get your retarded roll on" Culpepper calling Moss the best decoy (decoy??) in football, or dropping Jared Allen in coverage instead of pass rushing, or throwing first with the best RB in the NFL not getting the rock...imagine if we'd done that in the first Desert Storm. General Schwarzkopf at a presser: "they expect dominant air power and tanks, so to fool them, we're sending in the Coast Guard to wipe 'em out."

Dumb. Play to your damn strengths, nerds.

  • Wow, what military wisdom there! Tomb, are you David Patraeus in real life? We will be hearing more from you now that you have some time on your hands?

Be honest folks, did you have much in the way of exectations for a win in this game? Toughest game to win on our schedule, in my opinion. I do expect a very competitive game in the return match at the Metrodome. That said, I was disappointed in our overall performance, no question.

For the record, I was disappointed in some of the playcalling Sunday as well. However, on the point of play action on first down... that is not a bad concept. Think about it... most teams expect a run on first down and have the personnel and mindset to stop it. That, my friends, is what makes play action work. Now, the fact that there was not much success with it is another issue, but I offer that mixing in play action on some first downs was not necessarily a coaching error.

    • Play action on first down is not a bad concept if you have the personell that can execute it. You need a qb that can see the whole field, not panic and an oline that can actually pass block. Muskrat hasn't figured that out yet and it will cost him his job. Sorry Coach just the way I'm seeing it.

      • I hear ya, johnny. The offense has to improve, or else. I got no disagreement with that.

    • Doesn't that just go back to Tombs point Coach? Let's go against what we do best because the other team expects us to do it....that could be called "out smarting yourself". I understand doing it sometimes, but under 1/3 of the time.

    • Wisdom's what I do, military or otherwise. I encourage you to ask more questions, I have such wisdom to impart! Like this nugget: Man who walk thru turnstile sideways going to Bangkok.

        • Head of the CIA, and he can't even keep an affair secret. No respect for that fellar from Tomb.

          • No respect because of the affair, or the fact he couldn't keep it secret? I think I already know how Mrs. Patraeus would respond.

          • I don't care where he dipped his wick...his inability to hide it as HEAD OF THE CIA, however, unnerves me.

  • showed the game here but switched coverage for second half because the Vikes were not only a local embarrassment but a national embarrassment as well.....what little I did watch I saw a defense that tired early and lacked intensity ( offensive turnovers and "3 and outs" will do that) and on offense I saw a game plan that was predictable (everything short)....I swear our OC believes a football field is 10 yards long.....when you are out manned it seems "everything" goes against you in a game.....but it looked to me that Winfield got pushed off in the endzone...but why would he stand behind the guy waiting for the ball....yeah, the big question mark is still Ponder...all around the league every single week I see these young QBs dropping back or rolling out and throwing a 50 yarder.....ok, so what is it, guys, we really don't have anyone on our roster who can sprint down the field????? so Ponder can't really throw a deep ball????? if so, I guess it's on to the draft...but wait, we already did that...every year we do that....that's for another day......switch subjects: tell me coach if I'm crazy....the league shows me more and more success with the "athletic" QBs...SF, Wash, TB, Car, etc.......Ponder was supposed to be athletic AND smart and most of us don't see either...so is it our QB, or is this whole mess still upper management and coaching? I continue to see success in teams with less talent and I think that is because some coaches find a way to win with the talent they have....they don't have to wait until the dream roster is in place to be a winner.....I'm rambling...my usual post Vikings game funk....sorry, freds, I know, I know, I know...I should just bow out, check in at the end of the season and take in all the pain at once, instead of this one week at a time stuff...hope you all had a great Thanksgiving...after all, that is what is important!

  • Krug, I will readily admit that its hard to watch the RG III's and Andrew Luck's come into the league and have the type of immediate success they are having. Ponder won't be that type of QB, and the fact of the matter is there never will be that many who are. Most QB's need time to develop, but I also agree that we need to at least see signs of improvement very soon. I am hesitant to draw conclusions yet because our receiving corps is marginal and the pass protection is not adequate, and those things have great impact on the effectiveness of a QB. I do wonder why it seems that Ponder's tendency is to roll to his left, which makes his option to pass quite weak.
Its very hard to defend the results of our offense right now. Frazier, Musgrave and Ponder have to shoulder a great deal of the blame, but it is a team sport, and there are others who are not performing well enough for greater success than what we are seeing.
    BTW, Krug... good rambling!
