It feels weird writing this post to be honest with you. Part of it seems a little surreal… We’ve spent so, so much time following the ridiculous roller coaster ride that has been the Vikings pursuit of a new stadium to call home. Part of it is also this feeling that this moment is too big for me to comment on… too momentous. I imagine it may be somewhat equivalent to writing our first post celebrating the Vikings [inevitable] future Superbowl victory. This really is a huge victory for the Minnesota Vikings organization and Vikings fans everywhere.
So, here it is, what we’ve all been waiting for:
That felt good.
I’m not going to get in the details of who voted for what, what still needs to be signed, the politics, etc… It just doesn’t seem fitting. What matters right now is the assurance and the comfort knowing that the Vikings aren’t going anywhere. They are not going to Los Angeles. They are not going to San Antonio. They are staying right where they belong.
I wanted to encapsulate this moment by clipping some reactions to the news from Twitter. Before we move on though, I think it’s important to show our appreciation to all the parties involved in obtaining this amazing feat. I can’t even fathom the countless amount of hours of work that went into making this happen. Zygi Wilf and the Wilf family should also be commended for never giving up, packing their bags and moving on. They stuck it out and made possible what other Vikings owners were unable to.

Congratulations to every Minnesotan and every Vikings fan around the world. And congratulations to the construction workers, stadium employees, business folks and others who stand to earn a living from this decision. You're right, Brett, the amount of work on something like this in unimaginable. We do need to give the legislature, as a group, some credit here. Yes, there was enough ugly politics to cause illness in all of us, but in the end, they saved the Minnesota taxpayer another $50 million, and as a resident, I see that as good. Yes, they can be oh so annoying, and I have noted that on more than one occasion, but they did their state some good while also doing what they had to do. Whew!
Hate to burst the bubble, But stadium deal isn't done yet. Minneapolis city council could stop the stadium plans. Only need one vote to change.
I agree. I'm not calling it a done deal until it is a done deal. The news is significant, and completion seems well within reach, but as you said it only takes one mind to change to turn this thing south in a hurry.
Between now and the Minneapolis vote, lets just hope that all Minneapolis infrastructure (i.e. roads, bridges, buildings, airports, etc.) stay well intact and that no major game-changing crimes take place bringing attention to other budgets that might be experiencing shortages at this time. Of course, lets hope that stuff never occurs, regardless of the stadium situation.
For as many jobs the new stadium will create, and for as much money that it would pump into Minneapolis, the would be absolute fools not to pass it. But then again, politicians play the part of ultimate fools very well.
Back in March, seven city council members (majority) signed a letter, stating they will support the building of the stadium. This thing is a done deal.
I'm just saying, things can change... and by "things" I mean the minds of politicians.
If another Minneapolis bridge were to fall down, if a cop were to get shot, or some other major event that highlights budget short-falls elsewhere... this thing could, and I stress COULD, still fall apart.
Adam, Vikesfan, we're takin' a knee here. Running out the clock. Dumpin' gatorade on the coach. The other team isn't even using their time outs. Randy Moss is already in the locker room. The networks have switched to another game. Opponents are shakin' hands. Its over. Let yourself enjoy it.
When everybody has passed it, that needs to pass it, I will celebrate.
Mayor says he has the 7 votes needed to pass the bill. I hope so!!!
Woohooo! I'm gonna celebrate! Going to go purchase an extra large Colt 45 right now.
Skol Vikings, let's win this game,
Skol Vikings, honor your name,
Go get that first down,
Then get a touchdown.
Rock 'em . . . Sock 'em
Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!
Go Vikings, run up the score,
You'll hear us yell for more. . .
V-I-K-I-N-G-S
