Vikings Sign CB Zackary Bowman

By Brett Anderson

This morning, the Vikings agreed to a one-year deal with ex-Bears cornerback Zackary Bowman. Bowman, 27, has been in the NFL for four seasons but has not been a starter for all of them. In fact, the ‘veteran’ cornerback has only started in 16 games (playing in 46 total). His best stint was during the 2009 season when he managed to grab six interceptions.

While Bowman wasn’t a starter in Chicago, that doesn’t mean he won’t be with the Vikings. With the Vikings depleted secondary, it’s likely that Bowman could see a good amount of playing time. Overall, though, this move seems to be more about adding depth at a position of need and hoping to find value in a young player (it is a minimum deal with no guaranteed money).

  • wow, minimum deal with no guarantees. what's that tell ya? at least this guy wasn't signed off the couch. the 1-yr. deals point to a team that's unsure of their future and hope they can build through the draft. get the new stadium started now. mn does not want to lose the vikings and will regret it if that happens

  • Bowman once gave me crap at a gas station for having a Vikings decal on my truck... he tripped over the gas hose on his way over to give me said crap. Nice guy with a good sense of humor in my 20 seconds of experience with him.

  • I watched him play a couple of times when he was at Bartlett High here in Anchorage. HARD hitter back then and now probably one of the Vikings VERY best DB's (Sad to say)

  • wow another irrelavant pick up...even with our secondary he likely wont make the team...cant we do pickups that actually matter, instead of scraping the barnacles of the bottom.

    • I don't know, I could see him as an upgrade to what we got. That isn't saying much, but Bowman is a capable player that at the very least can contribute on special teams consistently. As we know, that is more than we can say for Asher Allen, who has proven terrible on the coverage unit.

    • At this point, I would say it is likely he makes the team... pending draft selections.

  • I think he'll do great, just hoping there aren't any gas hoses laying on the field when we play da Bears
