Some Wide Receiver News On Tuesday

By Adam Warwas

In filling their last remaining roster spot, the Vikings signed South Florida receiver A.J. Love as an undrafted free agent on Tuesday.

This isn’t really anything earth shattering, but I can remember in the flurry of UDFA signings right after the Draft finished it was reported by numerous outlets at that time that Love was signing with the Vikings.  At the end of the day those reports were erroneous, but in the long run I guess they turned out to be correct.

Love stands at 6’ 2” and weighs 208 pounds.  In 2008 and 2009, combined, he managed 56 catches for 843 yards and six scores.  In 2010, he had to sit out due to a knee injury, and his production lacked big time in 2011 where he only had nine grabs for 122 yards and a lone touchdown.

The story sounds similar to that of Greg Childs, which we discussed here, and Love could end up having some upside.  Childs, coincidentally enough, has not been participating in OTA practices due to a calf strain.

Some good news, however, is that Percy Harvin has rejoined the team during practices after initially sitting out and rehabbing as a result of his bone spur procedure from April.  Chad Greenway has also reportedly joined the team after dealing with a family issue.

  • Thanks for the news, Adam. A guy like this... you never know.

Hey, I heard the NFL is beginning a training program for replacement referees in anticipation of a work stoppage by the regular refs. Any news that you've heard on this, Adam, or is it all a part of the early gamesmanship in getting a new contract done?

    • Hey coach, it certainly sounds like there will indeed be replacements hired and trained. Whether or not they make any appearances in the (regular) season remains to be seen. Waiting for this to affect the team in a Vikings-specific way before really jumping into any coverage... mainly because lock-out bored after the last 14 months :)

    • The NFL locked out the Referees. The NFL did that so the referees couldn't do a strike vote after the season started, like 3 or 4 games in, and hold the NFL hostage. So unless they figure out the contract, it will be bakup referees this year.

  • I'm not sure how many of you folks follow the British Royal Family, but Queen Elizabeth celebrated her 60th Diamond Jubilee by leading a flotilla of boats down the Thames river o

    n her Royal Barge.

Most Royal Watchers couldn't figure out who was the tall, strikingly handsome man standing behind Duchess Catherine. It was our own favorite hunk of man meat, Jeff "Meta Universal Peace" Dugan.

I'm kinda ticked off by this. Dugan should have been in the front row along side the Queen.

Thank Jeff, that attention hog Nelson Mandela wasn't invited. Dugan would have given him the Richard Reels treatment.

  • I really don't see this dude making the roster, too much competition. Maybe a practice squad guy if he shows that potential.

Btw Ole are you back on the bottle or what?
