And The Top Receiver Target Is Off The Market

By Adam Warwas

The long anticipated answer to whether or not the Vikings would land wide receiver Vincent Jackson has arrived, and it is sure to cause some grumbling amongst the masses.

Jackson reportedly signed a five year deal with Tampa Bay on Tuesday worth a maximum of $55.55 million, according to Adam Schefter.  $26 million of that is guaranteed.

Wide receivers flew off the shelves on the first day of free agency, and as of this post, the Vikings are not known to have expressed interest in any of them despite their need to stretch the field on offense.

  • I'm glad we didn't sign VJax (especially for 11 a year), but our approach to Free Agency has been a headscratcher to say the least. If we weren't going to use any of our cap, why cut someone like Hutch who could at least hav been a good mentor to Kalil (varing we don't completely screw that one up too!!)

  • Did anybody even think Vikes had a snowballs chance in hell of getting Jackson? I sure didnt.

    • Holy-smokes. Took my mind right off of FA.
That looks like it hurts to walk that way.

  • I'm surprised so many of these receivers are off the market already. I can understand why the Vikes aren't going crazy. When the secondary guys like Garcon, Morgan, Meachem (not signed yet, but sounds likely) are doing big money deals on day one it's a sign that teams are going a little crazy.

    • Well Norse he's probably like Carr and not even on Vikes radar anyway. They are pretty much set at cb so dont expect them to even call any corners.

      • Looks like it's another year of the Vikes sitting on the sidelines and being a spectator. Yeee Haaaw!

        • I'm sure they have a plan, only problem is it wont make any sense to anyone. But hey they have their sights on a washed up center so we got that going for us.

          • Get Zygi's plane warmed up and go get Ben Grubbs!!! Just as good as Nicks and much cheaper. Oh I forgot, they are set at OG also since they released their starters from last year. Must have their sights on picking higher next year than this year, Sense any sarcasm here?

          • I thought it was very telling when Ricky decided to defer that extra 1.6 of cap space to next year? They have no plans to win anything this year, full rebuild mode and higher draft picks for 2013. Not good news on the stadium front tho.

  • You're right. Even IF they do get a new stadium, who will want to come out and watch a losing team. TCF stadium (seats 50K) will be way to big for the Vikes to play in. They might want to rent out a local high school stadium.

    • All conspiracys aside, what better way to move a team than to lose a shitload of games and lose fan support? Hope that's not the case but it sure makes one wonder.

      • Maybe Ricky got his marching orders from Zygi to close the checkbook and do exactly what you're saying. I give credit to the Rams. Besides raping the Redskins for a boatload of picks, they are very active today signing free agents. Hell even the Bills (yes, that's right, the Bills) are active today. Nothing but crickets from the Vikes. What about Erin Henderson? What's the status on him? Maybe Ricky is looking into signing a long snapper instead.

        • Haha that long snapper Ricky signed last year worked out pretty well, if you wanted a higher draft pick that is. I know now why they didnt just let Jared do the job.

          • The bigger question is, does Spielman know that free agency started today? This makes me really really nervous now for the draft. I can see it now " with the 3rd pick of the 2012 NFL draft, the Vikings select Xi Ping Dao, OT/CB/S/OG/QB/WR and TE from Beijing, China."

          • Haha thanks Norse, LMFAO! Somebody must have pumped some kind of sleeping agent into winter park today that's for sure. Hello Ricky... Anybody home???

  • If I was ponder Id be affraid very affraid....I see him having an even worse offensive line then last year and receiving core....Plain and simple, hes gunna get killed...Spielman should be fired after this...Whats his plan play for the first overall pick in 2013...I thought it wasnt gunna get worse then last year...I believe its gunna be more brutal....Thats the only thing i can see as the plan or he has no fricken clue what a talented player is..We have signeda few our "better" free agents, still not erin henderson which was the one that deserved it most and have we tried for some talented free agents? Hell no...this is just sad.,

    • I have a very bad feeling Ricky is gonna try and get cute and f ck this draft up. His problem is that he thinks he's alot smarter than he is. We'll call it the Childo syndrome.

      • I no longer think he is "gonna try", I have all the confidence in the world now that he WILL screw the pouch come draft day. Boy, shouldn't Vikings fans get compensated in some way for the crap we have to put up with. I mean come on, at least give us 50% off on beer or something to ease the pain.

    • If I was Ponder I would be asking myself these questions:

      1. Why did the Vikings draft me?
      2. Is my contract really valid?
      3. What's the quickest way I can leave?
      4. Is my life insurance coverage enough if I have to play behind this OL?
      5. Who the hell is Speilman?

  • my only question today is ........ why the hell is Fran looking at Kate Upton's shoes? They're not snow shoes Fran! Focus, dammit!

  • Looks like we'll be able to join our pals that root for the Lions in their misery. Cant let them be the only team in history to go 0-16 now can we? I dont see any wins in the NFC North again this year and even the bottom feeders in the league are getting better. Something is rotten in Denmark that's for sure.
