The Vikings Reportedly Interested In… Wait, What!?!

By Adam Warwas

I just finished up writing some paragraphs for a soon-to-come collaborative post we’ll be putting up with some of our blogosphere friends, and (spoiler alert) at one point I talk about how I would be nervous about Joe Webb as my number two quarterback if I were the Vikings.  In the post, I say I would be really wanting to upgrade my backup quarterback and slide Webb down to number three, as a situation change-of-pace type of player.

So, I finish typing that, and then I see a report that left me in a slight state of disbelief.

Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports stated on Twitter if Seattle’s other two top quarterbacks come out of Friday’s preseason game unscathed then we can expect to see the Seahawks trade Tarvaris Jackson on Saturday.  Okay, that isn’t too weird, right?

Then, Cole goes on to say that “many teams” have interest in Jackson.  Three of those teams are Green Bay, Miami, and San Diego.  Okay, so still not overly weird, but the level of interest is kind of surprising, right?

Alright, here’s where things get weird.

The fourth team listed as having interest in obtaining Jackson?

Yup, you guessed it… the Minnesota Vikings.

Have at it VT folks, what do you all think about this one?

  • Sounds like a load of crap to me, especially if they needed to trade an asset to get him. If he were outright cut and we had an injury at the position in the next game than I could see it, but that's the only way it makes any sense. We have a different system now that he would have to learn.
As for Webb, I think he'll be fine if they stop trying to jam him into the pocket passer box that so many teams try to put these uber athelete QB's into. Just let him do what he does best and you'll see his accuracy percentage go up. If Ponder were to have an injury that kept him out long-term, then I'ld be concerned with him starting, but I thought that's why they gave Rosenfels a decent chunk of change to be the #3 guy. He would likely start if Ponder had a season ending injury so Webb could continue to come off the bench in a change-up role.

  • Careful here, guys. This is nothing more than a reporter from Yahoo sports (talk about your irony) choosing to generate what amounts to a rumor. We have no indication that there actually is any interest on the part of the Vikings other than this. Before we blame any decision-maker associated with the Vikings, let's see if there is even a shred of truth to it.

    • There you go again, don't ruin the fun.

By the way, you're really kicking ass Buds you're number 5 on the top commentors list. BJohnny is basically running away with it. IF you work hard at it, you might be able to catch Charles in the number two spot.

      • Thank you, Freds. Being a top five commenter has always been a goal of mine, especially on a blog such as VT. But just as a running back would laud his offensive line, I must give you a lot of the credit for that statistic. Many of my comments have been in response to your mindless and wacky observations, without which I would be much further down the list. Blogging is a team effort, and a commenter is only as good as the people to whom he is responding.

Speaking of Johnny, where has that pup been lately? He said the sweet corn was almost done, and Its too early to be taking field corn. He has a nice lead, but doesn't he know the story of the hare and the tortoise? And we gotta give a hearty welcome to Lost! Haven't seen NFL teams in the singular for quite some time, so good to have you here, sir!

  • wtf is spielman thinking here...by even contemplating bringing back the joke....it was the smartest decision by the team to get rid of this moron....he isnt good enough to clean the toilets for the rest of the team...dont and i repeat dont bring his butt back..

  • Tarvaris was best Seahawk QB option. Seahawk choosing to let T-Jax go motivated by Flynn contract. Expect T-Jax will make NFL start somewhere during second half of season....probably as injury replacement for team with terrible O-line - Cardinal (?) Cowboy (?) Saint (?) Brownie (?) Dolphin (?)

  • In response, Tarvaris Jackson was quoted as saying, "I mbm jsldjwkejisvm uwnnvowm jeqq mvc pridn, an I hsanvn qpwe jweoh mgbumwump!" He was so emphatic the reporter didn't dare ask a follow-up question, in fact, the reporter looked dumb-struck.
