Should We Be Concerned About Harvin?

By Brett Anderson

Jeremy Fowler of the Pioneer Press reported this morning that Percy Harvin has yet to reschedule the surgery he was originally supposed to have last week. Fowler then went on to say, “However, Vikings feel there’s still time for Harvin to undergo surgery to remove bone spurs and return in time for workouts in late May.”

Should there be any reason for concern?

Personally, I have a bad feeling about the whole thing. As soon as I heard Percy was going to be having surgery this offseason, regardless of how minor, I knew it could turn into a bigger issue than originally estimated. Now, we’re finding out that what was supposed to be a simple procedure with a quick recovery time isn’t even currently on his schedule. And, on top of all that, there is also the timing of the Florida story which Harvin found himself a focal point of. (It should also be noted that, while ex-Florida coaches have come to the defense of Harvin, Vikings coaches have yet to do so.)

At this point, there really isn’t anything to suggest that Harvin will miss offseason training or any actual games. But with Harvin’s injury riddle-past and tendency to miss offseason training and playing time, I can’t help but be a little nervous. A healthy Percy Harvin is incredibly important to the success of the 2012 season. He is a weapon we can’t afford to have miss playing time. In a season that is all about the development of Christian Ponder and gauging what his future is with the Vikings, he needs to have all the targets he can.

We’ll be monitoring this story throughout the offseason and will make sure to keep you all updated with the latest findings. In the meantime, though, what do you all think? Are you nervous? Is there nothing to worry about here? Let us know in the comments.

  • I sure does hope he does not pull of a "Sidney Rice" We need him, badly.. The WR without him is worse than the bears was last year

  • Cheech needs to man up and get the damn surgery done. Maltes right we need him more than ever.

  • im a little concerned...but i dont think he will pull a sidney rice on us....plus its not like a major surgery like sidney rice had either

  • What is it with NFL players going thru the entire off season, THEN having surgery done?
In Harvin's case, I suspect he just wants to get out of OTA's and Camp and delaying surgery gets him out of a lot of pre-season work. Get off your ASS Percy and get to the surgeon!

  • Hiya Frans !
Good to see ya post. I don't get it, Major on Minor you would think these guys would want the injury behind them so they could just focus on football.

  • Just some thoughts from the pea sized brain of your old pal Fragile:

    1) The Zigmeister need to throw down his size 7 shoe and demand the political corn holes pitch in as a partner in this stadium thing or he and his son Mark Wilf will take their ball and leave to LA. Zig, show some sack buddy....well, figuratively of course. Your old pal Fragile wouldn't blame you one bit if you took this team and split.

    2) It must be draft time, old Buds and Frans are checking in. Always a good sign. Buds would you agree there is too much analysis on the draft? Heck, draft 3 offensive lineman, 4 defensive lineman and see ya next year.

    3) Purple Charles, what the hell is this about your lovely bride using handcuffs on you? Freds didn't read the entire posting but...come on man! I wouldn't blink an eye if it was Frans, what with his checkered past...but you??

    4) I haven't checked the stats lately, but BJohnny, I would guess old Malted is about to pass you in the number of posts on this here blog. My man loves the draft, good postings too.

    5) Cheech will be fine and if not, Seattle is waiting.

    6) Freds will not be attending the draft chat Thursday evening as he said "yes" to a friend to be at the Target center for the Timberwolves last game of the year. Freds needs to do a much better looking at his calendar. It will be fan appreciation night... great. If there is more than 50 people at the game it will be a shock... what a dumb ass.

Brett, this really should have gone in the " off topic " section huh?

    • Freds!
Not yet...lol Just a way to restain throwing remote thru T.V. when Rick trades out of spot or picks someone besides Kalil...
PS: I am into the Mrs. dressing sexy but No handcuffs...

    • Haha, good stuff Freds, as always. By the way, where did you see Bud? Did I miss him posting?

    • hey freds, nice of you to stop by on the busiest day of the year for you. must be filing a lot of extensions today, huh? good comments, i lol'd at no. 5. keep 'em coming

    • Nice shootout to me :)
And I sure do love the draft. Interesting take with 4 OL men and 3 DL men.. could it work?

  • Yep, good to back and looking forward to being much more active as the draft, OTA's and training camp begin. I'll be heading North for the summer in the morning. Not sure how long it will take to get the satalite dish alligned for internet reception, so may be down for a while, but I'll be back!
Nope Freds, not even I use handcuffs anymore. Getting too old I guess for the real fun stuff.
