Bud Grant Opens Up

By Adam Warwas

Vikings legend Bud Grant has always been one of principle, modesty, confidence, and wit.  A recent three part interview at the Star Tribune is well worth the few minutes of your life to watch.

Grant talks about everything from protection of today’s quarterbacks, touchdown celebrations, Twitter, finding another gal after nearly 60 years of marriage, python hunting in the Everglades, and his family.

You can view the three parts by clicking the following links:

PART ONE,

PART TWO,

and PART THREE.

  • Thanks for posting it here, Adam. It was enjoyable. I have some observations about it, but will wait to see if it is a topic worthy of discussion by the rest of the gang. Don't want to bore our readers with the old "I-walked-five-miles-to-school-uphill-both-ways" syndrome.

  • "I don't have a computer." "She has her own teeth." - classic

hehe, no answering machine, cell phone sits for a month at a time, doesn't know or care what wiki has on him or what reality tv is

perfectly independent, probably pretty well self-actualized human being, and a coaching god

    • The camera made me look a little heavy, don't ya think, johnny! I was pretty proud of how convincing I was that I had never heard of wikopedia. Hahaha! I tell ya, for some reason they believe anything I say!! Love messin' with the media, always have.

  • Well thank goodness Bud is seeing someone "who has her own teeth". Sharing teeth would probably get you kicked out of a restaurant while out on a date.

He's still pretty sharp, can't say the same about Sid

  • Love this guy! He continues to amaze me, everything he does and says is just so consistent. Doesn't drink or smoke or chew, probably never has. Probably doesn't cuss or swear. Like Cal said, doesn't even care about the internet. Just watches the news, probably doesn't even have cable.
I would like to be a little more like that.

  • You nailed it guys. He is one of a kind and genuine. Its a shame we didn't win a couple big ones so more of the world could really know him. I always had the belief that Bud would figure out a way for us to win, because usually he did. Unfortunately, a few that he didn't figure out were kind of a big deal. But that will never subtract from the great coach that he was.

I don't believe for a minute that he and Mike have not talked football, though. That's just Bud making sure his boy gets all the credit he is due.

  • Mr Grant, that person who did the interview with you is a damn kook. Fred's couldn't understand why some of the weird camera shots? Heck they even had a close up of your shoes. By the way, those were nice shoes, do they come in men's styles?

You had you're old pal Fred's on the edge of his seat a few times with that conversation. Freds thought that at any moment Nurse Ratched was going to sneak up behind you and cart you off to a shuffleboard game with Billy Bibbit.

Just so you know for next time, that black box that was making that bell sound is called a telephone. You can actually pick it up and talk to someone on the other end. When the telephone rang during your interview you looked at it like Jed Clampett looks at his seement pond.

Excellent choice of shirt selection, great color with just the right hint of plaid.

  • Man! I love that guy! Hasn't changed one bit as far as his outlook on life.
I wonder if he's ever hunted Ptarmigan? I'll extend an open invitation right now, for anytime you want Coach, to come on up to the Lodge and hunt some birds with me. We got good Laker fishing too, so come on up!

Agree with Freds, who was that dingbat interviewing him? Giggles like a little girl.

And Coach (B.Grant) please share some observations with us.
