After officially signing veteran WR, Dede Westbrook, over the weekend, the Vikings were left with one too many players on their active roster. This has led to the team’s decision to put 2021 sixth-round pick, Jaylen Twyman, on waivers.
This move was expected as Twyman was shot four times in June. While his injuries aren’t considered serious, and Twyman is expected to make a full recovery, the Vikings have been expected to put him on the NFI list (reserve/non-football injury). In order to do that, Twyman first must clear waivers.
Going into the 2020 collegiate season, Twyman was viewed as one of the better DTs of the 2021 draft class. His ability to rush the pass from the middle was top notch, and he recorded 12 TFLs and 10.5 sacks for Pittsburgh in 2020. However, his frame was a concern as he is smaller than many effective NFL interior lineman. This and a general need for development scared off many NFL teams. Because of this, he was gift wrapped for the Vikings at pick number 199.

I think I would have let go a WR if Twyman was gift wrapped to them at 199 pick
It makes sense to get him to the NFI list, and to do so, he had to go through waivers. He can't practice right now, and probably can't play for a while, so why bother cutting someone else who can practice and get some reps in the pre-season?
