Grade The Trade: Vikings Trade With Miami

By Adam Warwas

Rick Spielman and the Minnesota Vikings passed on nose tackle Andrew Billings once, twice, and then a third time when they decided to trade out of the third round completely on Friday evening.

Their trade partner was the Miami Dolphins who moved up to #86 to acquire Rutgers wide out Leonte Carroo.

In exchange, the Vikings have reportedly received a sixth round pick (#186) and Miami’s third and fourth round picks in 2017.

If the rumors of Billings’ knee injuries are at all true, and considering the lack of any desperate needs across the Vikings roster, I think this was Spielman flat out fleecing his former team and setting himself up nicely for next year.

More importantly, however, what do you think of these Vikings trade details?

Five of those years have been here at Vikings Territory where he continues to surround himself with enough talented individuals that people keep coming back. As proud as he is of what Vikings Territory has become, his real treasures are in his home... a beautiful wife and three amazing children (and a dog named Percy).

  • Absolutely Brilliant..
(especially if we assume that we have a better record than the dolphins next year) so that instead of getting #86 we get something like a #80)
Also, some places are saying they think next years draft will be much deeper than this years (I have no ability to make a judgement on my own..just passing along what some others said)

Given we have 2 6s and 2 7s this year

I would think there is a good chance we take the German WR and also a punter…
Of course a bunch of defensive linemen, backs and maybe a developmental RB or TE

  • Feel like we are so close, if it truly is a win now league should we have picked a MLB or a safety? trust in Rick I suppose

  • I was disappointed we didn't take a player in the 3rd, as quality goes down significantly now, but I trust our GM, Coach and scouts opinions. I'm sure with 6 picks remaining we can pull 2 or 3 good players out of whats left. Or maybe I'm just spoiled by their recent hit rate.
