Best of the Rest: Who Could the Vikings Select on Day Three of the Draft?

By Adam Patrick

Three rounds are in the books and the Minnesota Vikings have made the dreams of two NFL prospects come true. After a trade with the Miami Dolphins, the Vikings now have six selections on the final day of the 2016 draft.

Who could be the next player to call Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer “Coach Zimmerman”?

Offense

Vidal Alexander, G – LSU

The Vikings have a ton of expiring contracts on their offensive line after this season and could add a giant player like Alexander. He did play some tackle as well in college and Minnesota does like offensive lineman who can play multiple positions.

Devontae Booker, RB – Utah

With the ability to excel at running and catching out of the backfield, Booker already possesses some skills that a certain current Vikings running back does not. This could potentially be Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson’s final season with the team, so why not groom a player that can help make up for Peterson’s absence when he is gone?

Cardale Jones, QB – Ohio State

The Vikings do not need a starting quarterback, but with quarterback Shaun Hill’s contract expiring after this season they will need a backup sooner than later. Jones is a freak athletically and could turn into a player that Minnesota could use for trade bait in the future.

Defense

Andrew Billings, DT – Baylor

The 20th ranked prospect on our big board is somehow, still available. Considered as a player that could have been selected in the first round, if the Vikings were able to snag him in the fourth round it would be a definite steal.

K.J. Dillon, S – West Virginia

Dillon is one of the prospects left in this draft that has actually spent time at Winter Park. A bit raw, but down the road he could turn into the safety that Zimmer has been looking to pair next to Harrison Smith.

Scooby Wright III, LB – Arizona

Another player whose stock has seemed to have dropped due a knee injury, Wright would be a great addition to Minnesota’s young crop of linebackers (minus grandpa Greenway). When Wright was actually on the field, he produced when it counted.

Adam Patrick

Adam has been rooting for the Vikings ever since he saw Randall Cunningham win NFC Special Teams Player of the week in 1997. Since his career sports highlights include 3rd place at 5th Grade Golf Camp and catching a ball during a soccer game (he was not playing goalie), Adam turned to writing. He considers himself a 'Vikings Realist' as he does not shy away from criticizing the purple and gold if necessary. He will not always write about the popular topics, but his goal is to provide readers with content they cannot find anywhere else. Follow him on Twitter @Str8_Cash_Homey

    • You (we) got your wish Cal. He certainly held his own in the Ohio State footage that is available on his VT draft post by Carl. They now have good depth all the way across the line.

  • I'd love to have Booker or Billings.

Also, it's hilarious that both Treadwell and Alexander called him Zimmerman
